When I was about 7 or8 years old I always wondered why do the chicks crowd undertheir mother-hens feathers and wings. I figured out that ifcalfs suckle theirs mothers, lambs suckle their mothers so must the chicks do under thewings. When I went to school, and was about 10 the teacher was asking: do calves sucklet heir mothers? Yees! Do piglets suckle their mother? Yees! Do chickls suckle their mother? Nooo! only I said loudly Yees! The whole class and the teacher had a good laugh and I was explained that the chickcs are kept warm by their hen mother under her wings and inher feather! I remembered that forever!!!

When I was small (6 or 7 I believe), my mother bought me an easter chick at the market. An easter chick is a live baby chicken that had been dyed in one of several pastel colors and sold in the days leading up to easter (I grew up in the country in Puerto Rico).
Anyhow, the chicken was my only pet when I was growing up. I grew extremely attached to the chicken and proudly ate the egg she laid every night for breakfast the next day. I had her for a long time in the backyard until one day she ran away!
It was not until I was 30 (a couple of years ago) that it occured to me that the chicken soup we had that same day may not have come from the supermarket!

When I was little I used to believe seagulls were called 'seagirls' and no matter how hard my mum tried to get me to say seagulls, I always replied 'Yes, SEAGIRLS! That's what I said!'.
It was only until years later when i saw it written down that I realised! D'oh!
I used to believe that if a wild bird got into the house it meant that a relative or a close friend had died and that a telegram would soon arrive telling of the death.

You know how when you drive down the street, birds fly right in front of your windshield?

From the time I was a child, I believed penguins were man-sized. All the pictures I ever saw of them they were standing on ice, with nothing to reference their size. I am 57 and it wasn't until a few years ago that I learned differently.

Whenever I see a helium balloon in the sky, I smile because I remember losing one when I was about three and crying and my mother calming me down by telling me that the birds would play with it until it popped. I'm 31 and still like to comfort kids with that idea when they lose a balloon.
Remember 'Birdie' from McDonalds? We had a yellow budgie called Birdie, and I thiught it was the same one!

I used to believe the scar on my Grandpa's nose came from a pigeon pecking at it, cuz that is what he told me when I was about 10. (He used to raise homing pigeons) Now, I'm 35 and recently asked him how a pigeon could do that without him stopping it......
He laughed and laughed.... Then told me that it was a mole that left a very bad cleft scar there!
