top belief!
When the cold winter wasnt too far off, i remember playing by the door, and my mother said 'dont play at the door because a draft will come in under it' .
I interpeted this as 'A Giraffe will come under the door' , and had a visualization of a Giraffe, sliding in from under the door.
Mamy, many years ago when i was little, you could buy new heads for yard brushes that came with two holes drilled in them, to accomodate the broom shaft in different positions. My Father told me the other hole was to put a candle in, so you could sweep up at night! I think i was about 14 before i realised that the candle would blow out as soon as you moved the broom .. D'Oh !

My dad once told me when i was very very young that when you left things like televisions on, you were wasting energy and shortening its life (now i know of course that he ment energy in genral and not the TV's energy, and that by "shortening its life" he actually meant it breaking, and not actually dieing) . Anyway, I naturally belived, and thought that there were little people in all the electrical things, like televisions, ovens, etc. And i thought that if the teledied, then they would die. So for a whole week, i ran around the house turning everything off, and on the last day I went to pull a plug from behind the television and I got a massive electric shock!!! I was flung accross the room, and spent a week in hospital...I never played with electricity again...
i grew up in a big house, and anytime i was alone at one end of the house i would begin singing as loud as i could.....not because i loved singing, but because i thought singing out loud would show the monsters that someone may come and save me if the suddenly appered to eat me and i stoped singing.

When I was 6 or 7 years old, I absolutely believed that if a thermometer broke--the world would end.
I used to believe that books would get a headache if you put them back on the shelf upside down. I still can't bring myself to do it.
When we got our first microwave back in the 70's we were always told you couldn't put metal in it. I thought that meant you couldn't even use a fork to reach in and get you food.

Ok, when I was little my parents called our garbage disposal "the monster". So when I was done eating my parents would say to go feed my scraps to the monster. I was kinda scared that one night he might actually get too hungry and come out of the sink and eat my family....
Once when my sister and I were putting the washing up away she asked me if I had breathed inside a glass I was holding. I thought she meant that I was supposed to and from then on breathed on everything before I put it away. Funny thing is no-one ever questioned me on it. I must have generally been a bit odd...
when i was three, i thought that my nanas bedroom light that hung from the ceiling, had a mouse lving inside it, because i heard it squeaking one day. my beliefe was shattered one day when the light bulb blew and i thought the mouse died. turns out that there was something wrong with the wiring and it made squeaky noises when the light was moved (t was one of those really dangly one)
My mother had an awful way to get us to put our clothes away: "The fire inspector will be coming by today. If clothes are laying around, he'll note it as a hazard to vacate the house. And our house insurance will go up."
Until I was 8 I used to believe that if clothing went into the wash more than once it would turn into gold.
I used to belive fans created their own air and that if too many people had them on there would be too much air and the earth would shrink
I used to believe the posters on my walls were watching me and when i was sleep they would go and talk about me.
I also thought there was cameras in my poster
I had this 1 poster of Aaliyah and when she died i thought she could come into my room and watch me
When I was little my parents told me that whenever you open the refrigerator door, a little man inside would run so fast you can't see him to turn on the light, and then run back to his house behind the fridge. For a while I was too afraid to open the door.
I used to, and kind of still do, that if I were to look at a dark window for too long, there was no way that a face wouldn't appear. I was so sure that if I kept on looking at that window that someones face would pop up... I still avoid dark windows.

For some reason, I used to believe that if you put a potato in the dishwasher, it would grow a palm tree. I decided to try it, and was very disappointed when all that came out was a wet, soapy potato.
When i was little, there was a tiny hold in the wall of my bedroom near the light switch. I used to believe that little people lived in there. God knows why. and i always wanted one day for them to come out and meet me. wierd huh?
When I was little I thought the pictures on my wall had conversations with eachother. I would look at them, and since it was dark it looked like they were moving. So, I got scared and tried to go to sleep after that.
