Once, to get me to stop wasting water/electricity, my mom told me that every time you turn on the lights it cost 50 bucks on your electric bill, and when you turn on the water it cost 50 bucks on your water bill. For years I wondered where my parents were getting all this money from, and how anybody could afford water and electricity.
theres a hole at the side of the bottom stair in my hall and me and my friends used 2 think a crocidle lived down there and we used 2 put bits of leaves and stones and sweetie wrappers down the hole for the crocidle to eat...it was only till a couple of years later i realied that it was my downstairs neighbours cupboard down there. lol.
When iwas younger my mom had a picture of 2 ladies in old fasioned clothes having tea hanging on the wall above the couch in our living room. Well when you look at the painting from the height of a 4 year old the one lady looks like she has a Poodle head because of the bonnet she's wearing so for years I wondered why my mom had a picture of a woman having tea with a giant poodle in a hoop skirt.
My mother always used to get mad at us for leaving the freazer open (which is in the garage) so she told us that freazer animals would get inside if we left it open! Naturaly, being the loving person I was (haha) I left it open so they could come in.

Having my parents constantly warning me not to press the red record button I used to think that when you press the record button on the remote control that the house would blow up.
When i was about 8, my bedroom (being the largest) was generally used a s a junk room. My Parents stored random stuff there. I became increasingly terrified of a partlcular portrait that was placed in there, even so that i used to turn it around before bed, so it wouldn't "stare" at me. Funny thing was... it was a portrait of me!!!
You know those "Yuck" stickers that your mom used to put on the medicine cabinet and stuff... Well, I thought those stickers were people that had touched whatever was inside of the cabinet, and had been stuck on the sticker to show me how bad it was to touch that dangerous stuff. When I told my mom what I thought, she encouraged it, and I believed it until I reached middle school!
in my old home, (right now i'm 11 and my parents are divorced) my dad used to tell me that there were "little people" living in the walls. i used to believe him and i would even put crumbs out at night for them to eat!
when i was 6, me and my best friend were told by an evil next door neighbor that if you ring the doorbell the house will explode. we were terrified of doorbells to this day
Until I was about 9, I believed that there was a little girl named Jaamie who lived in the air conditioning vents on the ceiling. I thought she had black hair and green eyes, and that she got trapped up there a long long time ago and was very scared. I also thought that "Jamie" was mad at me and wanted to kill me, because I never went up there and saved her. One time I told my mom this idea, and she just looked at me like that was the wierdest thing she had ever heard.
Most people know that there is an emergency shutoff switch for oil burners, usually surrounded by a red plate. When I was younger, I was told not to touch that switch... ever. My belief was that if you flipped that switch, the oil burner would blow up.

when i was little, i used to think that when you moved, they would bring a new house to were you live and take your old one away. i had always seen the pre-fab houses on the trucks so i thought that was what moveing was
This is actually my husband's story, when he was younger, he thought a giraffe lived in his room. His mother always told him that it felt like there was a DRAFT in his room. Of course, the two of them enventually straigtned this misunderstanding up, but I think it is a riot!
When I was 4 I used to pack up all my barbies in little boxes and the put them on a doll stroller then stand on my moms bed and wait until a fire started so that I would be ready to leave the house, But it never happened.
You know those little green electric boxes? the ones with the sticker that showed a man getting shocked? I thought that that was a monster that lived in there, and if I got to close to it he would eat me. My parents encouraged this belief so i wouldn't get hurt.
When I was younger and everytime I used to take off my shirt or put one on, it covered my face and my eyes, so if i didnt quickly pull it over my head, this big needle coming from the cieling would poke my in the head. I guess because I couldn't see under my shirt and I scared myself thinking that.
i used to believe the boogie man lived in the furnace and every night when i got up to go to the restroom..he would attack me..so i ran to my parent's room and stayed in there the rest of the night.
When I was about 10, me and my friend (also 10) started digging up my front yard (of an apartment complex). We thought that we could build an underground water slide.

i used to believe that my father always told us to close the doors to keep the giraffes out ... terrifying
When I was little my dad told me there was a lobster in garbage disposal that choppped all the food up. I believed that for years! It kept me from sticking my hand down there though.
