My Mum always told my sisters and I that we couldn't have chocolate decorations on the Christmas tree because the fairy lights would melt them. It wasn't until I was much, much older and had my own Christmas tree,I realised that wasn't true. When I told my mum about my discovery, she just laughed!
When i was little, i used to wonder what happened to 'upstairs' when no-one was around to see it...I thought things were only there if someone was looking at them. Therefore, when you walk down the stairs, upstairs vanishes until the next time somene walks up there...

Once when I was a kid my Dad went into the attick. I was fascinated there was a room in the house I had never been in and I wanted to go so baddly. My Dad told me I couldn't because you had to walk on planks or you would fall through the ceiling. For the longest time I pictured floating boards in this attick and my Dad jumping on them as the floated by. I never did see the attick

I used to be scared to close the windows at night - reaching out across the black space (even when it was only 5 inches) used to freak me out, kept thinking something would reach up and grab my hand - and it wouldn't be a person. I would have to do it really fast or not at all.
Our family lived in Malawi Africa and often there were power cuts. The candles were lit and at 5 years old I firmly believed that the candles helped the electricity come back on.
dad shouted up one morning to me and my bro to search for a cat that had run upstairs when the front door was open. We spent hours searching for it. Of course it was a ploy to keep us upstairs for hours.....
dad shouted upstairs to me and my brother one morning to make sure that we wear our wellies all day around the house as the washing machine had exploded and soaked the carpets.......we did, for a whole day. Little did we know that the washing machine was fine
When I was around 8, I found the knob to the bathroom door all messed up one morning. My father told me that a burgaler had come in the night before and broken into the bathroom. I believed that story for many years. Now, I think he probably broke it himself somehow. He still denies telling me that story, however.
