When I was little and my dad would start a fire, he told me he had to take the logs with him everywhere he went and blow on them until they had enough oxygen to explode into a fire. I believed him for the longest time.
When I was a child I used to believe that the handle of my parent's bedroom was alive during the night. I could see every night the same show: 2 little metal people were talking about us.
Due to cartoons I used to believe that pretty much all kids had treehouses in their backyards, and I felt left out that our family didn't have one. Guess I never noticed that treehouses in real life aren't anywhere near as common as they are in cartoons!
I used to believe that there was a guy in the fridge and turn the light on when you open the door.
I used to think that Webster (the feather duster-like tool that you use to get rid of cobwebs) was alive and mean. This was because the packaging had an angry looking face on it. I was always afraid of it.
i used to believe the boogie man lived in the furnace and every night when i got up to go to the restroom..he would attack me..so i ran to my parent's room and stayed in there the rest of the night.
i used to believe personally that if you screamed at night then the world would go into your room and tell you to shut up!
When i was 13 (I'm 14 now) I asked my mother if houses came with door knobs. cuz i found one in the house but it wasn't on the door. So i thought houses didn't come with door knobs. I still get laughted at 4 that.
I used to think when i was going up the stairs that someone was following me so i used to speed up the stairs
As a child, my parents put "tot finder" stickers on our bedroom windows so firemen would be able to quickly locate us in case of an emergency. When I was about 2 I remember looking at the sticker and being afraid of it. I decided that making a clucking noise with my tongue would keep the evil at bay.
i used to believe if i walked around my house with out any socks or slippers, i would turn into a garden knome...
My mother would tell me when I was young, that if I didn't take my galoshes off at the door and wore them inside the house I would go blind.
I used to believe there was a little man, inside the fridge that would turn off the light when you'd close the door.
vacuums could suck up your toes
If you stuck your finger in a fan to stop it from turning your finger would be cut off.
As children, my brother and I used to love playing hide-and-seek with my dad. But he always had the best hiding spot. He would go to the furnace room and call our names into the furnace. We would be upstairs on the floor looking into the vents believing that somehow he had squeezed himself into the air vents.
When I was around six years old or so, I used to believe that if you looked into the reflection of your bed's headboard, that two women would come out of it and rape you... I most likely got this thought from my dreams.
My mom went back to work when I was in grade 5 and it was scary for us kids back then. We had to come into an empty house every day after school. If I was the first one home, I'd check all the closets, under the beds, and even behind the shower curtain to make sure strangers weren't lurking there. Why I thought people would hide in the tub is beyond me!
When I was younger I saw the movie "Jaws" and for a time believed that there was a shark living behind the couches in our living room, and so on Saturday morning during cartoons I'd have to jump from couch to couch to the doorway to leave. I also have a fear of leaving my feet uncovered while I sleep, at least in my own bed, no matter where I live and no matter how hot it is, my feet have to be covered. I can't think of any basis for this "habit" of mine.
When i was about five i use to always hear a commerical that said... "If you have a phone, you have a lawyer." Now i had no idea what a lawyer was but everytime i went to a family members house and noticed they had a phone, i would tell them " hey since you have a phone, you have a lawyer!"
