We had a set of kitchen scales with a wheel at the back which you turned to adjust the needle to zero. This wheel was shaped like a 50p coin, so I used to think you had to insert 50p every time you used the scales, and that the coin had got jammed in the slot.

Me and my brother believed that the garbage disposal was really an alligator living in the pipes that eats the leftover food. That's why we weren't allowed to put our hand down the drain, because the alligator would bite if off.

Whenever I heard the phrase "a long-felt want", I assumed that what was being referred to was a particular green felt bag in which my father's small foreign currency collection was stored. I assumed that every household had one like it!

When I was little, I was over at my friend's house. He did something bad and his mom said she was going to beat him with "Flice Water". Years later I realized she was going to use the FLYSWATTER!!!

My mom told me to use "elbow grease" when I cleaned. I looked for it in the cleaning cabinet but never did find it.

My mom also told me that my dad had bought a car that was "a lemon." I told her that even though I was just a kid I knew the difference.

When I was a lot younger,a particular picture of my Great Grandma sat on my Mothers dresser. When I would walk in the room it would scare me so bad as I thought she was watching me from the picture, she had passed away many years before I was born. You couldn't convince me in any way that she wasn't going to come and walk towards me out of the picture. So in my young mind I thought if I laid the picture down on its glass that Grandma Stevens was trapped under the glass, and so for years my Mother had to set this picture back upright and never knew I was the culprit.I always wondered what my Mother thought about the mysterious picture lying face down, but I never asked her.

i used to see things a lot around my house. things the most certainly weren't there. and of course these visions happened at night. for several months when i was around 5 i could have sworn that i saw the head of abe lincoln through my bedroom window. it was always sitting there on the pavement glowing...now i realize that it looked like the silhouette of lincoln on the american penny.

My uncle once told me that little green men live inside a dish washing machine and clean your dishes when it is on. I would sit infront of the dishwasher till it's done to try and see the little green men, but as soon as I opened the door they would all go back into hiding.

since a couple of years ago, i have been deathly afraid of windows. i guess it is becuase once i was at my grandmothers house and i was told that outside the almost dark sunset was beautiful. well the blinds were closed so i just prodded open one of the blinds so i could see outside...all of a sudden i saw two eyes and screamed bloody murder. later i was told that it was my uncle playing a dirty little trick on me.. well now i am deathly afraid to look at a window at night, but even in the day im scared too. if some walks by my window i scream very badly..(my family member continue to play this mean trick on me and i am almost 14!!)

When I was little I thought the pictures on my wall had conversations with eachother. I would look at them, and since it was dark it looked like they were moving. So, I got scared and tried to go to sleep after that.

When I was like 2 or 3, I thought putting something in the microwave oven made the object just warm. It could make something cold warm, or it could make something hot warm. So, when my food was to hot, I would ask my mom to put it in the microwave to make it warm.

Growing up, there was a crawl space above our house with nothing in it. We never stored anything up there, there was no light, it was just a tiny, dusty space above the house that nobody ever went in. When I first discovered that we had a crawl space, I asked my mom why it was that we didn't use it and she gave me a vague, "I don't know, we just don't." I took this to mean that she was concealing some deep dark secret and after much thinking and staring up at the little square in the hall ceiling which lead to the crawl space, concluded that my parents had a fourth child that they never told my sisters and I about -- they simply hid him in the crawl space, only giving him food when their other children were asleep. Somehow I decided that his name was Hugo and would occasionally use the broom handle to open the little crawl space door and announce to "Hugo" that I knew the truth about him.
