My mum told me not to lick a knife. I, naturally, asked why, and she replied that I might cut my tongue otherwise. And still to this day, whenever I lick knives, I never lick the cutting edge, only the side. Only much later did I learn it was apparently bad manners to do so regardless of which side you lick. Obviously she should have explained it that way instead of trying to be clever ;)

When I was a kid, I used to think the reason my parents locked the doors at night was to keep packs of wolves from coming into our house. We didn't even have wolves where I grew up.

i used to believe that the label applied to pillow that read do not remove except by consumer penalty of law. meant that im would be arrested if it came off so every time my pillow case came off i would hurry and put it on so it wouldnt fall off, it was really worn from washing so i thought if it fell off it would be my fault.

Our kitchen used to have this hideous wallpaper with these blotchy yellow and orange flowers. I was terrified of them; I called them "Sing-a-songs," which was my perversion of "Yosemite Sam," who I had sort of an early love/hate relationship with. My mother was not pleased when I drew all over the wall in an attempt to make it less scary.
