I used to chew my fingernails until my older sister told me that I was eating my own bones, and I believed her.

When I was little probably about the age of 4, I needed to go to the doctors for a routine meningitis injection, and as I was sitting in the doctor's waiting room and I asked my mother why I needed to have the injection? She replied by saying "Well, because you bite your nails, you need to have an injection to get rid of all those germs in your belly!" So I went in petrified of the thought of all the germs (which I thought were actual monsters!) so ran into the room to have the injection. And to this day, I haven't bitten my nails since and they are so strong! I thank my mother....but also wonder sometimes what possessed her to think of that?!

I used to have a really bad habit of chewing my nails. My mom said that whenever you chewed them (and swallowed/ chewed them) it was cutting up your insides and eventually you'd die. To this day, I never chew my nails!

My dad was always told that if you bite your fingernails, you'll blow up like a balloon. This was "confirmed" by his dad whenever a pregnant lady walked by. Grandpa would point and say, "see, she bites her fingernails." needless to say he never bit them.

my dad told me if i kept biteing my nails they will build up in my stomach, it diddnt help, i just stoped swllowing them. i have a weird thing, my nails have to be the same length every day, negative side is, they are too short to cut with a cutter, my teeth do the job well.

when me and my sister were young, my mom painted our nails red and told us if we kept on biting our nails we would eat the nailpolish and die. my sisters nails are now really long and pretty, but i kept on biting mine and now they're still really messed up and short.

My mom told me people who bit their nails became ugly. I thought my looks would change, that I would grow a hiddeus nose or something. I did not understand that she meant my hands would look ugly if i contined chewing my nails

I use to believe that if I kept biting my nails they would all fall out. my parents had a friend that somehow did not have any finger nails and they would show me his hands to put the scare in me and say he lost his nails because he wouldn't stop biting them. even though I believed them for some reason it didn't work all that good cause I still was biting them but maybe not as often.

In order to stop me from biting my nails, my mother (and a couple friends of her) used to tell me that nails would accumulate in my body, one over the other, and they would eventually fuse and form a long blade which would then come out of my throat and wouldn't let me breathe anymore. I still bite my nails to this day :-)
