My brother used to tell me when i went to sleep at night little people would come out from under my pillow and climb on me.....i didnt sleep with a pillow for a long time!
My dad had really thick glasses. He would often to fall asleep wearing them. I used to stare at him wondering how he could see his dreams with his specs outside his closed eyes.
When I was little I had this idea that if I dream about people maybe someone was dreaming of me and everything I was doing was just a part of their dream. I was terrified that the person would wake up and I would disappear.
When I was a kid my mum used to say "sleep tight, hope the lops don't bite" [bedbugs]. For years I thought "the lops" were actually giant fishfingers.
When I was little I used to believe that if I slept on my back that God would take my soul to heaven, so, not ready to leave, I always slept on my stomach or sides....and I still do...
I have been a very restless sleeper my whole life, especially when I was younger. Sometimes, I would wake up completely turned around, with my head at the foot of my bed. I thought gnomes came in my room in the middle of the night and turned me around :p
I blamed my small chest on my sleeping on my stomach until I was 16. I figured that sleeping on your side was the best way to get bigger. No matter how I tried, I would wake up sleeping on my stomach. It was when I asked my friend (who is really big in THAT department) what way she slept and she said on her tummy that I stopped believing.
Once at a friend's house (at about 18 years old) my leg went to sleep while watching a movie. I got up and limped around on it when her little 5 year old sister came down and asked me what I was doing. "Does your foot ever go to sleep Kathy?" She thought for awhile and then said, "No, but my head does."
when i was little my mum told me that if i didnt go to bed before 7:00 a huge elephant was going to come and stamp all over my bedroom so i made sure i went to bed on time.
Until I was about 6 years old I thought that when people sleep their heart stops beating and they don't breathe. So everytime I wanted my dad to carry me to bed I would tightly close my eyes, hold my breath and just hope that dad doesn't check my pulse... I always wondered how my dad guessed I wasn't sleeping without checking it, though...
I used to have a lot of nightmares when I was a kid. My Mum told me that if I slept
on my stomach I wuldn't have bad dreams. It wasn't til I was in University, and
plagued by terrible nightmares that I realized my mother had made that up, and
she probably just told me that so SHE'D get a good's night sleep...
yet, belive it or not, I still can't fall asleep unless I'm on my stomach
When my sister and I were little, our foster mother used to get us to settle down by saying, "Let's see who can get to sleep first!" We bought it, quieted down, and got busy getting to sleep.
How would we have known who won? Of course, by morning, we had forgotten the whole thing.
One November 5th - Fireworks Night - I couldn't get to sleep due to the noise. My Mum told me she had some secret stuff to block the sound out.
It worked, and I fell asleep quickly. I believed it for ages.
Then I found out it was hair wax.
when i was a kid, i used to think that if i didn't fall asleep, morning wouldn't come
When i was little i used to think that when you slept you could accidentaly swallow your tongue...so every night i would pinch my tongue between my teeth until i just fell asleep.
I used to think that unless someone said, "Sweet dreams" to me before I went to bed, then I would wake up screaming from horrible nightmares - but I wasn't allowed to TELL people to say sweet dreams, because then it wouldn't count.
when i was a kid i used to beleive that if you told sumeone your dream it wouldn't come true...of course the only dreams that i had were ones in my sleep...so if i had a bad dream then i would tell my mom so it wouldn't come true...hehe
I used to believe that elves came in at night and moved me while I was sleeping, thus my changed position when I awoke.
When was about 6, I would lay in bed and hear the blood rushing on my ears. I thought that I was going to get hit by a train when I eventually fell asleep. I stayed up pretty late for about 2 years.
i used to believe that mother and father didn't sleeped
