When I was little, I used to believe I could magically appear in Chicago if I completely covered myself in a sheet on my mom's bed and then spun around and around with the sheet on me. Then I'd take the sheet off my head and I'd ask my mom if I was in Chicago yet.
After watching cartoons I got the idea that if i got myself a fishing rod and line, i could hook myself and then by holding the rod and winding, i would be able to lift myself up and fly.
I quickly found out that this doesn't work but am still unsure why.
My dad had this way of whistling that I never could master. He said he was whistling 'through his teeth.' I pictured him having these tiny holes in his teeth that I didn't have, and that's why he could whistle through his teeth and I could not.
I used to believe that we could develop powers but we got to find them. I used to be with a classmate trying to improve our "powers" thinking about moving a paper off the desk and then we tried to control the birds while we were imagining they would obey. I was pretty influenced by my classmate I think
I used to believe that I could 'fly' at about 6 inches off the ground. I'd do this by holding my breath in my bloated out cheeks and doing a kind of breaststroke movement with arms and legs.
iused to believe that i could cook things by looking at them and a crazy sheep called jack would kill me in my sleep!!
I used to think that I could breath underwater by cupping my hands over my mouth and filtering the oxygen out of the water. I told my mom that I couldn't understand why more people didn't try it. I was devastated when she laughed and tried explaining that things just don't work that way. These days I still have dreams that I can breath underwater...
I used to believe that I could stop time. One time at a friend's birthday party I snapped my fingers, grabbed an extra goodie bag and snapped them again. The mothers were all at the back, and laughed when my mother explained.
I used to believe that I could run faster than the cars on the highway. I'd always ask my parents to let me out of the car so I could run to grandma's house to get there quicker.
I used to beleive there was a portal to another universe hidden behind my neighbours couch, and only I could use it. I never had the chance to use it because we moved house.
When I was little, I believed eating spinich would make me strong like popeye, so I used to force it down my neck. One day I was walking along the beach when I saw a 'rock', i picked it up and to my surprise I broke it on two, I told all my family who were ahead. I was so pleased with myself until I was told it was a hard horse poo!
If I practiced hard enough...I could use the force. I would concentrate really hard, hold out my hand, squeeze my eyes shut, and try to move things across the room. I was really bummed when it never worked.
When I was about 5 I think, I Use to watch the TV program "My Favorite Martian" I like so much the power of levitation that the Martian (Ray Walston) had, that I started asking God to give me this power, I told him that I was going to be a good boy if he gave me this power. Every morning when I woke up, I would put my finger just like he did, and point at something and with all my might try to move it, unfortunately this never happened.
I used to beleive I could fly, I tried to show my mom by flying from my bed to the exposed light in my room. I touched the light and broke it, then I got electracuted and taken to the hospital to recover. I never tried to fly again, exept that time I jumped out of a tree to the sun...I broke my leg.
When I was 2 or 3 one of my favourite "books" was Lego toys catalogue and no one knew why, 'cause I didn't want the toys from there, I just kept looking at it. What fascinated me so much was a tiny photo of some toy spaceship that was long and had a big ball at one end.and because of its shape I thought it was a girl. It was "flying" (or just had a night sky background) and since it was a photo and not a drawing I was convinced it was proof you can fly.
I used to think that if I closed my eyes other people couldn't see me.
when i was little i believed with all my might that i could fly.. i then convinced my little sister that she could fly, but she was skeptical. i told her she should go ahead and try if she didnt believe me..
so she got up on the couch and jumped right off while flapping her hands like she had wings.. landed right through our glass living room table, shattering it to bits. i then knew i could not fly either.
Okay, so you know how most TV shows are 30 minutes long? Well, when I was a kid and it would get to be my bed time I would go through the usual conversation with my mom.
"Can I just finish this show, pleeeeeeeeease?"
"Sure but go on to bed at 8:30"
"Thanks mom!"
I could never figure out how she always knew the show would go off at 8:30, so I convinced myself that she was a mind-reader.
You know the rays of light that you can see when you look at a lightbulb and squint your eyes? Well, when I was little I used to think those beams of light were the light's powers and if I held my hands up to it, their power/energy would be transfered to me. I stopped doing this when my aunt asked me what I was doing in front of everyone. xD
When I was a kid, I thought that the only reason I couldn't fly or walk on water was because I just needed to practice.
It must run in the family, because my mother claims she used to think the same about levitating.
