I used to believe that a rock I found in a park would hatch into a dragon like in the movie How To Train Your Dragon, or if I moved my body in a specific way I would be able to fly.
I used to believe that if I tried hard enough and concentrated, I could actually "float" off the roof of my Mom's house and land softly in the grass. After the first time I tried the 12-foot jump, I quickly dispelled that belief.
When I was very young, my greatest ambition was to be able to fly. I watched a children's show on PBS called "Zoom," in which every episode concluded with a closing song containing the lines "Come along and give it a try... We're gonna teach you to fly!" And I would get so impatient for them to show the episode in which they would show us how this was done. (Of course, they were speaking metaphorically, darnitall...)
When I was in grade shcool, I thought I was a werewolf. If anyone bugged me, I would snarl at them. I thought that I would transform into the fifteen-foot-tall evil beast if anyone got me angry enough. This idea changed drastically when I got beat up in 5th grade.
I used to believe I could "turn off" my nose at will when there was a nasty smell. I was just breathing through my mouth, but I didn't think anyone else could do it!
When I was young our television did not have a remote control, or at the very least it had been lost. However our next door neighbour's did. I became convinced that I could turn the television on and off just by winking at it, unaware that the neighbour was infact doing so with the remote control. I always wondered why it would never work on our own television.
I was about 10 years old before I gave up believing that I could someday develop super powers to move objects if I just believed hard enough. My goal was to be able to flip off the light switch from my bed so I wouldn't have to run across the room in the dark. Of course, I could have simply asked for a night light, but the super power ability would have been so much more fun.
When I was little I was certain I could see in the dark. I would try out my "powers" by running around the yard at night. But after running into a tree face first, I had to live with the fact I couldn't see in the dark....
I used to believe that I had magic powers, like Ultraman or Superman and that I could reach out and grab people at whatever size they looked like to me. (i.e. if the person is very far away, i'd grab a smaller version). This also applied to every living thing. I used to dream of catching birds and holding them in my hand like mozzies.
When I would shower, the water would run down my arm and appear to come out of my fingers. For the longest time I thought I had special water powers and that as I got older, I would be able to control them outside of the shower lol
"I was firmly convinced I could fly - I even have strong memories of flying or floating down the stairs. I think I probably could and it was only when I was told I couldn't that I stopped being able to."
By Pat (written on this very site - top rated belief).
Amazing. For a really long time, I felt the same way! I used to run down the stairs at home, because i thought (knew?) that I could just fly - but I never did, though... I think I dreamt it, but the dreams felt so... Real. I still dream that I can fly - it's always the same over again, me flying over the heads of my friends in kindergarden. (and now I'm fifteen so I've been having the same dream frequently for many years now). Sometimes I'm running down a hill, and halfway down, I levitate. Really cool (:
after numerous dreams of being able to breath under water, i believe i could, so i often tried it, i was convinced i could, but had not yet figured out how to do it, i wound up with lots of mouth fulls of water
When I was little, I believed that IF I BELIEVED HARD ENOUGH, I could fly! I tried many times, (mostly jumping into snowbanks from several feet up, so I wouldn't hit the hard ground). and fell down as many. I concluded that I just wasn't believing in myself enough. I spent many hours trying to figure how how to believe harder. Never worked.
For years when I was little, I thought that if I was touching a person, they could somehow secretly read my mind.
I used to believe that the dust particles you see floating in the air were actually atoms. So, when my teacher said that atoms were so small you couldn't see them, I thought that I just had super powerful eyes.
I thought the psychic powers were real and we all possessed some degree of it and just didn't know how to control it. I thought you could teach yourself to control it and eventually you could be a master at reading minds and moving things with just your thoughts. I practiced all the time!
When I was in first grade, I really believed that I could run so fast no one could see me (like the Flash). I tested this theory once when I had outside detention during recess.
Apparently, my teacher had x-ray vision...
I liked to live in a fantasy world when I was younger. I had a friend that joined me in these unusual beliefs. Supernatural stuff. If some kids at school were mean to us, we always believed that it was because they were ghosts sent by some evil power. We believed that we could conjure up spirits by reciting the quotation on the commemorative plaque in front of the school.
When I was about 5 I thought if I tried hard enough I could lay an egg like a chicken. So naturally I checked the toilet every time I had a poo...but no eggs ever came along, alas.
When I was 2 or 3, I had just finished watching pooh bear, and saw cassie the blubird flying, so I thought I could to. I tied my favorite blanket around my neck, climbed on top of the kitchen table started flapping my arms like crazy, (in case the cape didn't work) and jumped off. I ended up in the ER with a broken leg!
