My mom had me to believe that I only had a certain amount of tears in my tear duct, and if I used them all I wouldn't have any left for when I was older and really needed them.(that was just mean mother)

I remember standing outside and staring at the flower garden. And I noticed that every time I blinked, everything in my vision would shift slightly. And I blinked rapidly and saw the flowers gradually shifting to the right. I began freaking out, because I thought that if I kept blinking, eventually the whole picture would move away leaving only blackness and that's how I would become blind.

this went on from 1nd to 6th grade, i always thought that if you sneezed with your eyes open that your eyes would pop out of your head a little bit. When i was in 5th grade a friend of mine said it happened to a friend of hers. when i was in 6th grade i was reading about Urban Myths and that was a big one. It said it was impossible for that to happen.

I thought the white circles you see when looking at a bright window were what atoms of air look like.

I believed that if you crossed your eyes and plugged your nose and someone hit you on the back of the head your eyes would pop out.

Like several others here, I used to believe that what I saw as, for example, purple, might be unique to me. that perhaps colors were a unique experience to each individual, and that this was responsible for the great disparity in each individual's favorite color. What I find amazing is that I read an article only a year or two ago (it's 2003 now - in case this site stays up for a while) that indicates that while the phenomenon may not be as extreme as I (we?) believed, differences in an individuals optic cones actually DO lead to differences in perceived colors.

My cousin showed me how he took out his eyes every night and put them in a little holder. Later I realized that these were actually his contact lenses.

I used to believe, when i was 4-6 that everybodys eyes could see different colours.

For example:If I saw a blue car i thought everyon else saw it in a different colour like, red, yellow,or green. Colours like that. I am 12 now and i still laugh when i think about it.

The other day I was driving my 8 yr old daughter to school. We were talking about a comment someone had made about her long eyelashes and how it embarassed her. I made the comment "Ellen, most women would give a million buck to have eyelashes like yours." She got quiet for a little while, then said "Mom, I have THE BEST idea to make money. What if I made FAKE eyelashes for people!" "Then they could have eyelashes like mine and I can get rich!" She was so excited. I hated to have to tell her that fake eyelashes have been around a long time and she won't be getting rich anytime soon from them.

I knew a little girl who thought the word "eyebrow" was "eyebrown." I don't know how she explained black or blond "eyebrowns."

I was diagnosed with astigmatism when I was 2 and until I was 31, I thought I had A Stigmatism, not astigmatism. I thought the word was stigmatism. D'oh.

Evers since i can remember up until i was 7, i thought that all you could see was the color that your eyes were. (for ex.: if u had brown eyes, you could only see brown) i thought i was special because i didn't walk around seeing blue everything. i learned about rods and cones when i was 8.

When I was about 14 a friend told me a gruesome tale about another friend who, when she sneezed inside an elevator, her eyes popped out of their sockets and landed on her cheeks. I am now 37 and have never sneezed inside an elevator in case it is true.

i used to believe that the reason my granddad wore glasses was all down to the teaspoon he left in his cup of tea. I asked him one day, i was about 4 at the time, why he wore glasses and he said that it was because the teaspoon he always left in his cup of tea when he was drinking it always poked him in the eye!!!! I only found out about 4 days ago that it wasn't actually true, and i'm 25 now!!!!

I used to believe that my eyes worked by shooting out my sense of sight to the object, to 'see' it. Later learnt that it worked the other way round, and even later learnt that Plato shared my childhood belief, saying that rays of light shout out of the eyes to see objects.

I used to believe that if I closed my eyes my mum couldn't see me anymore. I was always running around blind but hidden...

When I was little, my cat clawed me across the eye. I freaked out and thought my eye ball was bleeding but my mom told me that was impossible because the human eye 'blink' is this fastest thing in the world and nothing could touch it.

I use to poke myself in the eye...a lot.
