we were told as children that if you kiss your elbow you will become the opposite sex. My sisters tried to kiss their elbow, but it proved impossible.
My mother used to call my behind "a paw paw" and for many years I refused to eat paw paws (papayas)

I used to believe that when you grew up, your teeth somehow, magically, could be
removed at will. With two parents and several others in my life who wore dentures,
it just made sense!
My mother and grandmother told me that I would turn into a boy if I could kiss my elbow. I tried and tried but never could.

I used to believe that feelings were eyebrows. When someone said their feelings were hurt, I thought it meant that their eyebrows hurt.

I used to believe that my left hand was my "good" hand and my right hand was my "bad" hand. (I mean morally, not in terms of dominant-handedness.) I think this came from the Bible verse that says something like, "Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing." I would feel sorry for my left hand and try to treat it well, but my right hand was always trying to get away with stuff, so I had to be stern with it. I think I had issues as a child...
I used to believe the white marks on my fingernails represented recent lies I had told. My parents told me this and I believed it for years. I was too young to wear nail polish and couldn't wear gloves in warm weather and therefore became a very paranoid, yet truthful child.

I used to think that the roof of your mouth was made of teeth, laid like tile. It sure felt that way, until I asked when those teeth would fall out, and was shown the roof of my mouth in a mirror.
I used to believe that my gums (in my mouth) where made out of Fruit Gums (sweets) and would hopefully give them a lick every now and then.
When I was a child my mother reliably informed me that if I didn't wash behind my ears I would grow mushrooms. I held this belief so long I can't tell you! And now of course....I tell my children the same.
I used to think my feet were made of cheese!!: )
I used to believe that there were tiny men inside me jumping on my heart to make it beat. I always wondered how come they didn't get tired...I was afraid because I got tired after jumping rope for a long time.
As a result of misunderstanding the words to the first line of the song "Ball and the Jack" ("first you put your two knees close up tight"), I thought that there was a part of your body called a "toony," of which you had two.
When I was little, I was sure digits were called "thinger" and "fum". (As opposed to finger and thumb.) No matter what my mom said, I was sure I was right as fingers are THinner and thumbs are Fatter.
I used to think that all your teeth fell out at once and spent many a moment worrying myself how i would eat when it happened.
I used to believe that is you wore socks in bed your toes would drop off. The only exception was if you had verrucas, in which case the opposite was true. My mum insists she never said this, despite both my brothers also havind believed it.
When I was 8 years old, my babysitter used to tell me that when I had a hangnail and you pulled it down, your hand would unravel and i wouldnt have a hand anymore
I used to believe that my birth mark was a tea stain!
As a child my parents told me that if I kissed the boys my teeth would all fall out. Needless to say, I used to kiss my little boyfriende anyway, and I thought I was getting away with it, too, until my teeth started dropping out!
