When I was younger I used to think there were lights in my body because people would always say, "I'll punch your lights out." So one day I asked my mom, "Do we have lights in our body?"

I used to believe that we all had clockwork hearts that had been wound up all the way to the end when we were born and and were ticking away during our lifetimes, and when the clockwork key had run out we'd die. I also thought if we were to take a tumble or fall the clockwork heart could break or get damaged and stop working. I was never worried about rust though, for some reason.

One of my uncles was born with the first two fingers on his left hand fused together. When my cousins and my sister and I were children, he would tell us that they got that way because when he husked corn on the cob, a piece of the "silk" had gotten stuck between his fingers. Even now, some fifty years later, I think of that EVERY time I husk corn on the cob.

When I was young I believed that little cartoon mice lived in my head and controlled my body... For example, when I went to sleep my dreams were either acted out by them or they would play a movie for me. Or, when I had to go to the washroom it was because they traveled down my body and turned on a tap.

Two things, neither of which I believed for very long; One, I believed your entire body filled with food as you ate, hence how you were "full" Makes sense, eh? Two, my grandmother used to undress in front of my when I was very young (ew, I know), and I once asked her if grandpa had "nailed those titties on you, cause I want some." *sigh*

When I was young I slammed my finger in the car door. We were at IHOP and my brother told me that if my finger got too close to my hot cocoa that it would shrink. From that point on, until I was considerably older, I held a belief in my subconscious that there were people walking around with shrunken fingers, until one day it came out in conversation..."you know those people with shrunken fingers..." oh my.

When I was little I thought that everyone had little wings inside their shoulderblades and when they died the wings grew so then they would be angels
and could fly.

When I was little my mother would not let me wear socks to bed. She believed it was bad for your circulation. I suffered many a winter night with cold tootsies well into early adulthood. Now my mom doesn't even remember this notion and frequently wears socks to bed, as do I.

My parents used to tell that if I didn't clean my ears, potatoes would start to grow in them - a terrifying thought.

I used to believe that my gums (in my mouth) where made out of Fruit Gums (sweets) and would hopefully give them a lick every now and then.

For a while, and only for a while mind, I was convinced that there was a small button hidden somewhere under the skin at the very top of my buttocks - just where the 'crack' starts. Finding this button and depressing it would allow the removal of the aforementioned cheeks - though for what purpose, I can only now wonder!

I used to believe the lighter colored half-circles at the base of each fingernail was the next nail, underneath the first, waiting to grow out and force the top nail off.

For some unknown reason, I went through a phase as a very small child during which I thought there was a disease that made it impossible to separate your hands from each other after clasping them together.

When I was young, my loving grandmother told me that if I didn't get all the water out of my ears after a bath....I would grow potatoes in my ears. Needless to say, I spent hours "drying off" in the bathroom after a bath.

My dad told me when I was little that if I kissed my elbow I would turn into a little boy. Of course it not only is physically impossible to kiss the tip of your elbow, but also to change your sex without surgery, but I was a kid, I did not know. I tried so hard to do that, but of course never succeeded.
