I used to believe that a street sign that read "Dead End" meant that there were dead people buried there.

I used to believe that the moment you blowed out the candles on the cake on your 100th birthday, you would die. And that no people lived past 100 years.

That after you died the people could still hear you. When I was 9 or 10 my Uncle died and I felt really good that he could hear all the good things the people were saying about him.

When I was little, my granny told me that if I left my drink sitting for awhile that a little worm would crawl into the drink and if I drank the drink I would die. She said she knew a man that it had happened to. She only did this so I would finish my drink and not leave it sitting around, and I think it was pretty ridiculous, but to this day I still don't like to leave a glass or a can with any drink in it and I refuse to drink anything that's been sitting out of my sight for any amount of time.

My 5 year old was really upset and concerned about dying. I told her that she had to be 90 to die and that she had a long way to go. A few months later, I had to go to a funeral. When I told her where I was going, she said oh, they were 90?

When I was about 3 & attending my grandmother's laying-out (at her home), I went over to her & touched her cheek. I did it VERY gently, & so got the erroneous impression that dead people were very soft--&, so, had apparently had their bones taken out! Being young enough to make this mistake I was neither surprised nor dismayed by it, & of course eventually learned better...but I remember thinking this was true for a long time.

I was told that if you ever raise your hand to hit your Mother, your hand would stand straight up in your coffin and they would have to break your arm to close it.

When my son was little, he told me that he knew why we buried dead people .... then he carefully explained ..... 'so we don't trip over them.'

My mom told me one day that she was going to a funeral. I thought it was a place to buy fruit.

I used to believe that if you got soap in your mouth you would get really sick and could possibly die. This belief started because I went to go feed my rabbit one evening when I was six or so. My mom told me to wash out his water dish really well with soap, but to be sure that I rinsed it out well too. She told me to be sure that there was no soap in the dish when I gave it to the rabbit. I asked why and she said that it would make him very sick and that he could die. Needless to say I was very careful when rinsing out the water bowl. Later that night I was taking a shower and I got soap in my mouth (I guess I wasn't being careful enough then) I screamed and screamed for my mother, and when she came in frantic and I told her what was wrong, she explained to me as best she could that it was the rabbit's delicate system that would cause the problem, and that I had no reason to worry...

To this day I still HATE getting soap in my mouth, More that anyone else that I know of... and I am super careful...

When I was litte, my mom and aunt told me that if it rained on the day of someones funeral, it meant they were going to heaven. I know that's not true, but still to this day I always hope it rains.

When my sister was 6 or 7, she was playing with a lead ball that we had for some reason. She was rolling it on her cheek and it touched her tongue, and she cried and thought she would die.

When i was 9, I used to beleive that you would go to hell if you didn't say the lords prayer three times just before you died. The lords prayer had to be the last thing you said .. and you had to say it in full three times.

I used to wander around saying it under my breath just in case something happened to me too quick and I didn't have time to say it.

I must have looked pretty damn strange.

My son was 3 when Dale Earnhardt died. He asked what happened. I told him that Earnhardt was in a crash and died but that he was in heaven with Jesus. A few months later, our cat died. When I told my son that Lucky died, he said "he's in heaven with Jesus and Earnhardt". So everytime he hears that someone dies, he says that it's okay because they are in Heaven with Jesus, Earnhardt, Lucky and our other cat Gypsy!

I was shocked when I found out that people actually bled after being shot.We never saw blood in the old black and white movies we saw on TV in the fifties.

As a child, i was afraid of caskets and to this day i still am. My grandmother had a blanket i would never cover up in because it reminded me of the material inside of a casket was made of.

My brother told me that anyone with an arm band, like the ones bartenders used to wear in old western movies, murdered his brother. So, I thought that anyone wearing any kind of bracelet high on the arm; around their bicep, murdered their brother. In the seventies, these bracelets were very popular among women, so I thought I was often surrounded by murderers.

my grandpa passed away several years ago and my sister and i went to the funeral. there was a dog-food factory close to the gravesite and for years my sister thought she could smell my grandpa when it was the factory down the street. that had to have been traumatic for her...

My friend actually believed this. He was playing with a vegetable peeler, and his mum told him not to. When he asked why, she said "That's how Grandpa died." His grandpa had actually died of cancer when he was very young, so he had no reason not to believe this. As he got older he started to question it, as vegetable peelers aren't very sharp. He finally confronted his mum when he was about thirteen and she denied ever having said it. She still does now.
