When I was 6 or 7 I had been to several funerals for very old people. I wasn't afraid of death because I believed you just crossed your arms and went to sleep. Everyone in the coffins had their arms crossed, so I figured that is how they died. Seemed very nice.

As a kid I worried a lot. I used to think that my grandmother, who were 75, could die at any moment. And then when my mother walked in, and found her dead. I figured she would die from the shock. Then when my father would come and see them both dead and he would die too, and I would be all alone in the world! I hoped that the neighbours would let me stay with them.

when i was about 4-5 years old, one of my friends told me that if you put your arms in a cross and and pushed someone with your arms in that position, they would die. I was realy terrified

when i was a child, and people asked me where my grandparents lived, i used to just smile vaguely and point my finger to the sky, since the only thing i really knew was that i had to take a plane to get there (they lived up north). in norwegian, the expression for "the sky" and "heaven" is the same (himmelen), so every time i did the finger pointing, people used to say "poor thing" and pat me on the head with a sad look upon their faces.

I was 5 years old when my 96 year old great grandmother died. As my mom was trying to explain this to me, I remember asking her "If they scooped her bones off the floor." For some reason I thought that when you die, you are always in bed, and you instantly turn into a skeleton, and your bones fall to the floor! My mom had a tough time with that one!

I had no concept of death, I used to believe that everyone lived to 100, at which point they instantly turned back into babies!

When I was very young, I could not believe why everyone didn't carry life insurance, which I believed kept you from dying.

I was told that if you touched a dead person they would reach out and grab you. It wasn't until I was a teenage that I realized it wasn't true, but I still don't want to test it.

I used to believe that 82 was the highest possible age for people, that if you hadn't already died, you would surely die when you were 82. This is because my great grandmother died at 82. I never concidered the fact that I had another great grandmother, still alive at 96.
I also believed that my grandfather died (at 59, when I was three) because he ate too much chopped liver.

I used to believe that you lived forever unless you got sick or were killed. It was quite a shock when I realized that you died anyway. That's when I first heard about a soul, and was told that wouldn't die. But I didn't buy the soul thing until much, much later.

As a child I always believed that if someone you loved died and you looked up at the stars, and you looked for the brightest one it would be the person you loved and they would always be looking after you. It gave me a sense of peace to think they were still around. I still find it reassuring to do this now.

I told my children the same thing when their grandfather died and it helped them, they only had to look and they could still see him.....unfortuately they now sit there pointing out the three gerbils, twenty something fish, their friends dogs, birds the cat has caught........!!!!!!!

When my pappy died when I was 4, we didn't have the proper burial for him. The last time I saw him, he was lying on a bed covered from the chest down. I remember the nurse picking me up to let me kiss him on the cheek and then I told him that I loved him, and I said nite nite to him, and I thought he fell asleep. A few years later, I asked my Mom when Pappy was going to wake up. Then I proceeded to tell her that I should wake him up, because my dollies missed using his cane for a balance beam.

When I was around the age of seven I recall the television report outlining the life and death of the actor who played Ronald McDonald. I was terrified because before I heard this I never thought anybody I knew would actually die, and I felt as if I knew Ronald. For the next couple of years I feared death and thought for sure I would die in my sleep.

when about 4 i remember asking my father what happens when you die. He informed me that when he died, as far as he could tell, the world would end. I dont think i was really ready for this kind of zen....
