top belief!
At dinner time my brother and I would put our chewing gum on a "gumparker". I wonder how long I actually chewed the same piece of gum. It also makes me wonder what other words (still in my daily vocabulary) were invented by my parents and are indecipherable to other people.
My grandmother told me that each piece of gum I swallowed would just sit in my stomach. The next piece would fall and stick right on top of the old piece. Eventually, this pile of gum would get so high that the last piece would stick in my throat and choke me. I didn't stop swallowing my gum, but each time I wondered if this was the swallow that would kill me.
When I was a kid I had an obsession with chewing gum. My mother trying to get me to quit chewing gum told me that gum was made out of elephant Buggers, so I stoped chewing gum.... for years
My mom told me that if I swallowed my chewing gum, I'd have gum trees growing out of my ears. I kept sticking my fingers in my ears, hoping to feel the branches emerging.
My aunt always used to tell me that if I swallowed gum, I'd turn into a frog!
When my little brother was about 3, he asked my mother and myself for "pee buh buh" over and over. He even went as far as to put both of his hands to my mom's cheeks and slowly mouth the words. We kept asking him if he meant peanut butter. After about 10 minutes of this, we figured it out. He was asking for a piece of bubble gum.
My friends and I all believed that chewing gum took seven years to digest if you swallowed it. For some reason, one of our number thought this was a bad thing and we were all disgusting. The rest of us calculated when we could celebrate that the gum was finally all digested, which, for me, will be when I'm 19. Only a year to go.
Once, I believed that it took 7 years to digest a swallowed piece of gum. I have no idea where I got THAT from.

My Da always told me that if you swallowed gum, it would end up in your appendix because thats what they were for. I ALWAYS spit out my gum when he said that!!
I was told that if you swallowed a piece of gum, it would stay in your stomach for 7 years.
Although I never thought it would kill me, I used to think that gum would get stuck on my ribs if I swallowed it and just be a gooey mess.
My Uncle Billy used to tell us that if we swallowed chewing gum it would clog our bums up !
I used to believe that keeping your chewing gum behind your ear over night would keep it full of flavour for the next day
I was told as a kid that if you kept stuffing a Big Buddies (bubble gum)I would get lock jaw.
on chewing gum,
I think it was a thing in our hometown because not only my brother and family, but all my friends parents said the same thing. It takes 7 years to digest gum. It just slows everything down in your system and you will become deathly ill. I think I actually believed this until I was graduated.
my older sister told me that if you accidentally swallowed chewing gum it wandered around inside you and could get tangled all round your ribs and suffocate you. I still don't chew gum!
