When I was young, my brother convinced me that if I chewed a piece of gum for long enough it would turn into a chicken bone.

I used to think that all the black spots on the sidewalk were pieces of gum that had been stepped on so many times that they got all dirty and turned black. Gross!

If you swallowed chewing gum, it would grow a tree out your belly button. Same for watermelon seeds, except watermelons would grow, not tree's.

When i was little my mom always use to say that If i swallow gum that it gets stuck in my tummy, and then i will never be able to eat, so once when i chewing gum i swallowed it by accident so i started to cry, so my mom came in the living room and told me why are you crying so i said because i am never going to be able to eat all because i swallowed the gum so she started to laugh.

When I was young, someone told me (probably my Mom) that if I swallowed bubble gum it would make my ribs stick together. I immediately got a mental image of two of my ribs with bubble gum sticking to both of them. The few times my children have swallowed gum, I have gotten that mental image in my head and quickly scolded them. Even though I know it doesn't stick to your ribs... right. lol.

I remember my dad use to tell me if you swallow too much bubble gum that a giant bubble would blow up in your stoumach and you would blow up too. I believed him until I turned seven years old! I still remember it until this day!

When I was about 2 or 3, the shop across the street from my house sold these flavoured bubblegum fthings like banana to even chocolate milkshake, i think it was about 42 flavours they had and the greatest of all it was each one of them had a different colour wrap, depending on the flavour. So with a bit of help from the nanny me would go to the shop and id get at least 3 gums a day and of course id end up swallowing it - just because it tasted SO GOOD that i couldnt resist myself to do it -. Thing is though, my 2 older sisters (9 and 18 years old) would tell me the gum was gonna get stuck in my stomach and that i would get such a big belly that my parents were gonna find out i had been eaten gum all day. So the ONLY and MARVELOUS solution -according to my "caring" sisters was to take a tablespoon of cooking oil to "grease it all down" and "release" the stuck bubblegum from my sytem.

This carried on for about 3 weeks - and i agreed to it just because i loved bubblegum so much - until i told the nanny my stomach hurt and that i kept having diarrheas, both my sisters were grounded and forced to eat something nasty like broccoli everyday for 3 weeks.

PS: i still swallow gum... and im 23

When I was very small, I remember sitting in my mom's lap in the car(it wasn't going) and she popped some gum in my mouth. Just as she said 'don't swallow that' I had. I thought it was normal food. She panicked and told me that it would stay in my stomach forever.

Then she gave me another piece, as long as I promised I would never swallow it.
Unfortunately I am allergic to gum now(aspartame) and can't have it...

When I was little a close friend of the family told me never to swallow chewing gum because it would make my stomach stick together. I imagined that it would make me look really skinny with a waist only a few inches wide from the side view. That really scared me. I was embarrassingly old before I realized it wasn't true.

OK!!! so when I swallowed my 1st peice of gum i was TERRIFIED because I thought it would come out the same way it was when i swallowed it like gushy and crap! i was scared. So then I thought that whenever you swallowed a peice of gum u would poop it out and it would be all gushy and chewed on. It was pretty nasty but then I asked my sister about it and she said no it stays in ur stomach for 7 years then I started to believe that.
