My mom didn't want me to choke on bubblegum when i was younger, so she always used to tell me that if i ate bubblegum while riding in the car, or talked with it in my mouth, it would automatically roll down my throat and would choke.

At school we all believed that if you swallowed chewing gum instead of spitting it out, every piece wedged in your lungs and eventually you could not breathe anymore. I never swallow gum, thirty years later!

my brother and I used to think we could make bubblegum balls ourselves. We would roll chewed up saltines into balls, cover them with pepto bismol (pink and minty), and leave them in the refrigerator to harden. it didn't work.

I used to believe that when you swallowed gum. All of the gum you swallowed before would stay in your stomach and turn into a giant ball of gum. Eventually becoming too big, causing your stomach to burst.

When I was a kid, my grandmother told me that if I swallowed gum it would stick to my insides. From this I got the impression that my abdomen was hollow, sort of like the Tin Man's torso, and that when I swallowed gum it would stick to the inner walls, leaving them blotched like a gum-covered sidewalk. (And no, I don't remember what I thought happened to the food I ate.)
