One of my uncles told me that fat people got that way by swallowing watermelon seeds. So every time I swallowed one I was terrified. Another uncle (yeah, great ones I have) told me that you got fat by swallowing gum, because it would blow into a bubble in your stomach. Needless to say, I was very careful when I chewed gum.

When I was about 5 years old, I had chewing gum for the first time, and I was told I couldn't swallow it. However, I ended up swallowing it anyway, and concluded that I was the only person who could swallow gum and that I was smarter than everyone else, because they couldn't swallow gum.
A couple of years later, my brother told me that if you swallow chewing gum, it stayed in your stomach for seven years, and I believed him. I was then terrified of swallowing gum, and I counted how many years it would take before the gum I'd previously swallowed would come out...

I use to think that if you swallowed your gum
that it would stay in your tummy forever
so I aways pictured my gum as a tree sump that you sat on
and deers and rabbits and trees were in my tummy.
It looked like something out of Bambi.

When I was in kindergarten I believed that rocks developed from gum. I was chewing some one day, and spit it out into the dirt. Me and my friends went back to the same spot and dug it up, only to find a rock.

I thought that when I swallowed gum, it would eventually grow into a large ball of gum on the inside of my belly button, and that I would need surgery to get it removed. I wasn't told that would happen either, some imagination. I'm only 13 years old, just so you don't think I'm some 30 year old believing that would happen. xD

When my cousin and I were about 5 and 7 years old, he told me not to swallow gum because it sticks to your heart if you do and you die. I was so scared to swallow my gum, from then on...until I got older.

In pre-school and kindergarten, it was common knowledge that if you swallowed your gum, it would take 7 years to digest. Nobody would do it because we figured we'd run out of room for food after a while. Years later, people began to question it, but really no one was sure. I don't think I quit believing that until the middle of high school.

As stupid as it is, I remeber when I was about 4 years old and I used to be frighted to DEATH of the bubble writing on the bubbilicious bubble gum wrapper. I know that its sound very made-up but I remeber not being able to go to sleep because I was scared of the font. lol

One of my fam members tried to stop me from swallowing my gum by telling me if i did, and then later had to go to the bathroom, # 2, i'd blow up into a bubble and the only way to get down was for PaPa to shoot me down w/ his shot gun....I never swallowed gum again except for one time and then i didn't go #2 for a week...It took my mother a lot of convincing to get me to go....I believed this at least until i was like 11 yrs old.

I saw my cousin chewing gum one day when i was 3 or 4 and i asked him what it was and he said gum. I asked where he got it from and he pointed to his mouth. I thought gum was your actual gums but it never came out for me to chew. His was green anyways.... not really the same thing, huh?

I remember once someone told me that if you chew bubblegum and accidentally swallow it your tummy would blow up and it was only since last year I realized that wasn't true.
