i used to think that if you were grounded that would mean your head would get burried in the ground until ya mum or dad or watever would let you out
It never occurred to me when I was little that my parents would try to protect me or watch out for me. I thought they took me places without considering whether kids were allowed there, and I thought that if for some reason I got in trouble when out with my parents, the powers that be would punish me directly without appealing to my parents first.

My mother used to say, when I asked her where she had been, "Timbuktu". I honestly believed she went to some magical place called Timbuktu, and I would always get upset she didn't take me with her. Turns out she was just being sarcastic.
This is actually my son's. I must preface it but saying that he and I have strange senses of humor and have always innocently goofed around with each other. There are 13 years between him and his only sibling (an older sister) and this occurred before there were so many weird horrid crimes against children. When he was about 8 or 9, he was going through an very inquisistive stage, continually questioning everything. He was driving me nuts. After a long day of questions, he asked my how come there were no siblings between him and his sister. I said, You had a brother but he's buried in the back yard for asking too many questions. After that, every now and then I would see him walking in the back yard just randomly looking around.
This happened to my ex husband. After my grandmother, whom we called Nana, died, my ex husband told me that he believed her name was Nana, and was shocked to hear that it was Elsie Mae.
Whan Iwas little my big Sister told me that My mom had an alternate family in California. Every day she would go to work she would drive to California.
I thought that Dad's were always older then Mom's, come to find out my mom is a few months older than my dad.
When I was small, my older sister told me that when I was asleep, all my sister's friends came over to party. I was so jelous that one day I invited all of my friends to party on a school night. I wondered why my parents were so mad at me when my sister did it every night. It just wasn't fair!
up to the age of 4 years i believed that you had be king and queen to get a child. i was very confused when my dad told me that my mom and he had never been king and queen. i needed a lot of time to get over this crushed belief of mine.

when I heard the term " step on a crack, break your mother's back" I thought it specifically meant MY mother. Not only would i never step on cracks, if I saw a man walking down the street step on a crack, i would yell "HEY!! This is my mother! It's your back your breaking!"
when i was little, my dad convinced my brother and i that he was tickelish on the middle of his forehead. everytime we would touch his forehead he would bust out laughing. i believed it untill i was 10.
When I was about 6 or 7 my dad told me that his legs were 2 different lengths. I went on thinking that until I was about 13. I though one of his legs were longer than the other!
I used to believe that my mother had been eaten by gremlins and that the gremlins wore thier skin and pretend to be my mom and sister. I wouldn't go into thier rooms at night because I thought that the gremlins took off thier uncomfortable human skin suits at night. I thought that if the gremlins knew I was on to them they would eat me. I also thought that if I let my feet dangle off the couch or the bed gremlins would eat my toes.
I used to believe that parents had to have a boy first, then they could pick the sex of their child. This concept worked for all of the families I knew, except for a family around the corner who had six girls: Lori; Linda; Leigh-Ann; Lesley and Liz.
When I was 5 I used to believe that I was the only child in my family, and all my brothers and sisters (I have 4 brothers and 1 sister) were strangers. One day I asked my Mom who they are and why they slept in our family. My Mom laughed!
I used to believe that I was a princess and that my parents were the king and queen of some country in Europe and the people I was living with were just protecting me till they got back.
They still haven't come.

I used to have this fear that my parents were only taking care of me for a short while longer, like 12 years of age, and then give me away as slave labor, though they were always very caring parents.
My little sister and I were misbehaving so my mum started peeling off her sunburnt skin and told that us that if we didn't behave she'd take her batteries out.
By golly we pleaded with her not to take her batteries out and we certainly behaved that night.
When I was a little girl my grandfather told all his grandkids that Mickey Mouse was his cousin. Being little we all got so excited to have our favorite character in our family
