When I was little I used to believe I was adopted because there where no photos of my mom when she was pregnant with me (they didn't have a camera). My little brother was adopted when I was seven and that was confirmation of their plot to keep my own adoption a secret! I had to give up on that idea when I started to realise that I am the spitting image of my mother and I have the EXACT same hands and crooked teeth as my father.
My dad is about 6'2" and a pretty big guy in general. I used to believe that he was so big that he could touch the power lines and had a hard time getting through doors.
My Uncle's old school friend was Ringo Starr, everytime I was at my grans and the telephone rang he used to say it was "Ringo wanting to know if he was going out for a pint", only when I was older did I discover they went to different schools!!
I used to believe that my dad knew everybody that you needed to know - and although I'm now 25, I'm still not convinced that he doesn't. He knows who to speak to to get - including a special price on concert tickets, a cheap (but excellent) photographer for my wedding, and all manner of cheap reliable tradesmen.
When I was younger and had been naughty, my parents used to pretend to phone the doctor and ask for him to take me away. Everytime I was naughty I used to think the doctor would come and take me away!!
i used to think that my sister was a genie and flew a magic carpet at night
i used to believe that i was a twin.
i thought that my mom had gotten ride of my sister. my mom had told me that i had a strong heart beat and the doctor could hear my heart beat on both sides of her stomach.
When I was little I thought that adult men didnt cry. I never saw my dad cry but I saw my brothers cry I never understood that.
When I was really young I thought that aunts were aunts when they were young and became grandmas when they got older.
When I was very young I managed to convince myself my mother had another family, and whenever she went to work she actually lied and went to visit her other family and her other children! I had a very over-reactive imagination XDDDDD
When i was about 3 or 4, my mom once jokingly pretended to be a baby and said i was now her mommy and i thought she was serious, that in some strange way i was now her mother and she was now my baby daughter. I became hysterical and bawled my eyes out. Of course, she never did that again!
I'm a girl. When I was a little kid, I always used to think I could be a dad when I grew up!
Until I was about four years old, I believed that my older half-sister was actually my cousin. We shared the same father, but she lived with her mother several states away. All but one of my cousins at the time were older than me (none the same age), and we only saw them once every few months (or even years), the same frequency that we saw her. When she came for a visit that year, I said something about her being my cousin. My mother looks at me strange and goes, "No, sweetie, she's your sister." This confused me, because all of my little friends lived with their siblings in the same house, but my sister lived far away. My mother explained it to me, but I didn't become totally un-confused until it hit me later until the concept of divorce was explained further.
This is not exactly my belief but more of my sister's:
When she was really young, she thought that a person's sibling is the one they will get married to.
When I was four or five I asked my mom if I could have an older sister. She tried to explain that while I might get a younger brother or sister, I couldn't have an older one.
I sighed in exasperation and said "I guess I'll just have to get a maid."
It turned out I thought that if I had an older sister, she'd have to pick up all the toys!
In my family we call our aunts auntie, but most of my friends just call them aunt. One of my sisters friends when introduced to my auntie clare thought her name was eclare and was named after the dessert because my sister called her auntie clare.
For several weeks, I thought my mother was a cactus. It caused recurring nightmares.
when i got stung my mom would mix baking soda and water and put it on my sting and i thought that this was a magical solution that only my mom knew she couldnt even tell my dad cuz he never did it!
I used to think that everyone got their clothes from hand-me-downs. I always got my brothers old clothes so I hadn't even been to a clothing store until I was about 9 years old.
When I was a child I used to believe children were being brought by stork.
