My parents did not get married until I was 15 years old, so as I child my parents and different surnames and I took my mothers. It should be noted that my parents still LIVED together, they just didn't get married. I, as most children do, thought that every family was basically the same as mine. So, when I was about 5 or 6, we went on holiday with another family. There was something about this family which rather confused me, so I asked my mum "mummy, why do they all have the same surname?". Well it DID seem rather strange....
When I was a little girl my grandfather told all his grandkids that Mickey Mouse was his cousin. Being little we all got so excited to have our favorite character in our family
I thought babysitters would sit on babies who mis behave. I would cry forever when mom said she would call a babysitter for me. can't we come up with a better word for babysitter?
When I was about 3 or 4 I used the word 'adult' for the first time. Shortly thereafter my dad called me into his room. He said I was in trouble. When I asked what I had done he replied "You know what you did". I was then sent to my room to think about what I had done. The only thing I could reason was that 'adult' was a bad word. I refused to say the word 'adult' until about the 4th grade when another kid said 'adult' in front of a teacher and the principal. When he didn't get in trouble I then did a few experiments. I said "Adult" around some kids who would laugh at bad words. They didn't laugh. I then said "adult" in the coah's hearing and he didn't respond. I have still to figure out why my dad got mad at me that day when I was 3 or 4.
Gruntie
When I was little my Mom and Dad told me I’d been found in a skip behind the hospital - I believed it for years until I blurted it out and school one day and my parents had to come down and explain!!! How mean is that??
My brother is my half-brother from my mom and my sister is my half-sister from my dad. When I was young my brother told me he was more my sibling than my sister because we had the same mom. I believed him for the longest time!
It was my grandad's birthday and I asked my grandma how old he was and she told me he was 21 and I believed her, but I couldn't understand how that would work, I spend the whole day trying to figure it out.
I used to believe that a family had to have one mom, a dad, a son, a daughter, and a baby of any gender. Since I am an on;y child, I thought my family wasn't a real family.
I used to beleive that my parents had magical powers. Every time they kissed a boo-boo, it went away. Every time I asked a question they knew exactly the right answer. Even realizing that it wasn't magic, just wisdom, I was scared to death when I got pregnant at 18. I told my mom that I didn't have the "magic" of parenting and that I would be a failure. She of course had no idea what I was talking about. (I got the magic a few months later)
My mum and dad use to threaten they would send us to Germany to live with our brother "Helmut" if we were naughty. I always pictured this kid living in a cave in the snow with an army helmet on with a moustache. Mum still threatens us with it, and I'm 19!
Okay this actually something my sister believed but i think it's hilarious. First of all my family is the whitest white family there is but when my brother laughs his eyes srunch up like an Oriental persons would. So, my sister asked why and my grandmother told her that we had Japanese heritage in our family. She believed it for years. Turns out we are 100% Irish.
when my brother was about 4 or 5, we convinced him that we had found him in the trash can behind the circle k. we gave him full details of the day we found him but told him we loved him anyway. after about a year, he just "accepted the facts" and started telling people about the day we found him behind cirkle k, but that it was okay with him because we loved him anyway.
I use to believe that everyone had a long lost twin on the other side of the world.
when i was younger, my sister convinced me that i had had an older brother but she had killed him because he was bad, so she used to threaten me with that when i was annoying her.
I used to think that all moms wore glasses
(My mom did, and all of my friend's moms did.)
when I was 6 years old, I used to believe that -
only girls could be my friends because all other boys were my brothers.
I used to believe that my mom ws Superman or Superwoman cause she would never get sick and always fixd my bike when it was broken
My grandad has a small scar on his face and he told me (very convincingly) it was where a bullet had skimmed past him during WW2. It was only about four years ago when I was telling this to my husband that my mother told me my grandad had infact fell over one night on the way home from the pub! He has several war related stories, some of them true, some I now take with a pinch of salt!
When I was about three my mom had to go to the hospital and when we got there I annouced I wanted a baby sister. My mom said ok not understanding I wanted to get one there. When it was time to go I siad "But I wanted a baby sister!"
when i was little, i asked my dad what his favorite color was. annoyed, he replied, 'clear', and from then on till i was about 8, i thought clear was a real color. it wasn't until i was 10 that i finally realized that clear was not considered a color in the rainbow. the fact that it took me that long makes me sad...
