my mom's from norway (im in the us) and naturally i was so used to any accent she mightve had that i refused to believe she actually did have one when someone told me. only when i went off to boarding school and came home a few months later did i actually notice it for the first time, and stopped being pissed at my jerk friend who i thought was making stuff up.

I used to think that there was someone who looked exactly like me on the otherside of the world; that everyone had a twin and that I wanted to go overthere and meet them.

When I was about 6 I didn't quite know how grandparents part of the family tree worked. One of my grnadfathers had died when I was very young and I don't really remember him. I still have both Grandmothers and one Grandfather. Anyway, when I was 6 we had a Grandparents' Day at school and our class had to write about our grandparents or something. One of my friends asked about my deceased grandfather and I answered something like "Oh, he died, but I've got this spare one anyway!". Didn't quite get how it worked! :)

This is actually my son's. I must preface it but saying that he and I have strange senses of humor and have always innocently goofed around with each other. There are 13 years between him and his only sibling (an older sister) and this occurred before there were so many weird horrid crimes against children. When he was about 8 or 9, he was going through an very inquisistive stage, continually questioning everything. He was driving me nuts. After a long day of questions, he asked my how come there were no siblings between him and his sister. I said, You had a brother but he's buried in the back yard for asking too many questions. After that, every now and then I would see him walking in the back yard just randomly looking around.

When my grandmother went to China to live for a few years I told my little sister (then 8) that when she came back she would look Chinese and only speak Chinese. She was convinced that this was true.

I used to believe that Grandparents were assigned to their grandchildren. When I was four I used to ask my mom if her mom died and she would say "No, Grandma is my mom." I had to ask her a few times before I finally remembered it though.

When I was about three or four I thought my parents had a fun party every night after I was asleep (they didn't). At night after they thought I was in bed I would sneak onto the stairway (my bedroom was on the second floor) and sit quietly, listening hard to hear if the party had started yet. But I always fell asleep before it did!

i used to believe that your mum or dad's sister wasn't called your aunt until she was married. So i refused to call one of my mum's sister "aunt" until she got married when i was 8.

During my childhood, I thought that the mother I was living with was not my real mom because she wasn't white. It wasn't until junior high that I learned about dominant and recessive genes, and realized my mom was my REAL mom.

I used to believe that my cousin and I were twins because we had the same first name just spelled differently and to make it worse my grandmother would dress us up a like and tell people we were twins. I was devistated when I found out we were not reallly twins!

When I was about 4 or 5, my granpa had died. My granma, instead of wallohing, she decided to have a party. Being the strange family that my family was, they made a joke that my grandmaa was having a sex change. And for the longest time, until I was about 10 or 11, I had avoided my grandma because I thought that she had been dating herself.

My fanily got a big kick out of that once I told them why I had been avoiding her.

i used to believe that my grandparents on my father's side were both my parents' parents. I only worked out that this would mean my parents were brother and sister when i was about 10.

My little sister is 21 years younger than me. She believes that kids are not human. They are all *childrens*. They will be human when they grow up.
