My brother used to think that boys had blue eyes and girls had brown eyes. This is the way it is in my family (including grandparents), so it makes sense!
I used to believe that women had babies by virtue of being married and in love. Men and women got married because they loved eachother, therefore being in love produced babies. I was totally disgusted when I found out the truth (via reading Womans Own, when about age 9)
My mom played a joke on me when I was young. She had picked up a new picture frame from the store. And as you know, new frames come with that fake picture in it, so you can see what a photo would look in it. Well I saw this and asked who the three little kids were in it. She said that they were my brothers and sisters that I had never met. I got all confused and excited that I now had a sister to play with. But then she said she was just joking...sigh...I never got that sister to play with.
When I was a little kid I believed my uncle must have been half Chinese. I think this was because he has a sort of asian coloured complexion. It never occured to me that he was my uncle because he's my Dad's brother, and therefore they have the same parents (neither of whom was Chinese).
I used to believe that Grandpa (my next door neighbour's father) had lost his leg during a cricket match when he was, apparently, hit by a ball. In fact, he lost it in the First World War. I spent many afternoons sitting on the floor at his feet knocking on his false leg. It was hollow and made a nice noise.
i used to believe that if i pulled on my dad's belt, a hole would open up under his feet and the ground would swallow him up!
I used to believe my my Grandma was 30 when my dad was 35...lol.
When I was a child, my father would threaten to whip us with his RAZOR strap. I had truly visualized a belt filled with razors.Well the day finally came! We were playing football in the house and my older brother put my older sister through the livingroom wall. Well my Dad said thats it! He went to his room and got the RAZOR belt. He brought it to the livingroom and all it was, was a pieca of leather. My brother and sister and I all looked at each other and started laughing so hard. We explained to our Dad why we were laughing and he started laughing too. We never got the whipping!!
I am the youngest of 3, and my brother and sister are both quite a bit older than me. My mom would always talk about when "Lance and Ricki were little." But because I had never seen them little, I just did not know what to think. So in my head, I saw them as they were at the time (both teenagers) but just shrunken down to baby-size. Quite an odd picture to put in a four-year-old's head.
When my little sister would make me angry, I used to tell her that the gypsies left her on the doorstep, because even the gypsies didn't want her. She believed me for many years!
Once my father and I was on a fishingtrip, we didn't get any fish. But all around us there was small birds flying around. My father said that it was FLYING FISH! And I belived him...
Untill I was enganged and my boyfriend told me that we don't have flying fish in Norway. I didn't believe him, because my father had told me different!
But I had to admit that I was wrong, when I could not find anything about it in lexicons and other books...
My mums parents lived on one side of the city and dads on the other. When we travelled to see my mums parents every saturday arvo, we would pass a High Security Jail. Dad would always say to me "my dad is in there"...and I would believe him. Even though we would visit Dads parents on Sunday arvo!!!!
When I was little, my parents told me that my dad was "a full-blooded Danish man." My picture of this was that he was like a water baloon just filled with blood, and if he were to be pricked, he'd just explode.
I use to believe my dad was the tallest man in the world. When I saw other guys taller than my own dad, I was confused. I didn't know whther he was still taller than them or not.
When I was a little boy, my grandfather created for me a wooden magic wand and he said if I used it, chocolate would appear in my room, because a fairy would come, attracted by my magic power. Every time I used my wand, it worked. And every time I used my wand, my grandmother wasn't with me…
I thought my mom was bullsh*tting when she said my Grandma and Grandad where her parents. I really didn't comprehend it.
Once my mom told me I was born black and turned white at 3
I believed her and took great offense to any racial slur
I dreamt that my brother and my mother abandoned me in a bakery..after that I hated to go to the bakers..until I found out that they would never do anything like that
When my sister and I were younger I would tell her she was adopted because she was dark skinned and I'm fair skinned. She finally learned the truth at age 10
I used to believe that all black people were cousins. I lived in a small town and every one of the black children that went to my school were related.
