I used to believe the word shoes was spelled shouse. It looked right to me...
I used to think that the word creative was always associated with crayons, because of the artistic 'cr' sound in both words.
When I was a little kid there was a short on Sesame Street about the letter G. At the end the guy said something like "and G also stands for (starts cracking up) Giggle! (bursts out laughing)". For the longest time, I misheard "giggle" as "eagle" and didn't get why he said that, as even as a kid I knew that was wrong, or what was supposedly so funny.

I distinctly remember thinking in elementary school that there was an English word 'ol', as in "I ol go to the store this afternoon" or "They ol be surprised when they see this".
I used to think monk was short for monkey.

When I started reading comics, I used to think people were yelling "APPLES" when they were happy to see a performance. Later on I learned the word "applause".

I used to think elemeno was one letter, so when my preschool teacher was teaching us letters, I remember raising my hand and asking, "What about elemeno?" I also thought it was Y-and because of the song.
I used to think that letters each had their own personalities, and that the small letters were baby versions of big letters. A was a girl, and B was a boy for some reason. Q was an O that had a penis. My child imagination was really strange!
When I was little I already knew how to read, and was incapable of talking without spelling out the words in my head (and still am). So, naturally, I thought 'tongue' was spelled T-U-N-G. Then when I was asked to read a book at the library to the other children, I pronounced 'tongue' like "tung-yoo", then the lady corrected me and said "Tongue."
I used to think that the word "palindrome" was a palindrome!

I used to think that the book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was Harry Potter and the Order of the Penis
I had never seen a Play-Doh box, so I used to believe "Play-Doh" was spelled "plato".
I used to think that heater was spelled "header"(which i didn't know was pronounced hedder)
I used to think that there was a letter called elemento P, because in the alphabet song they sing "H-I-J-K-elemento P", and i wondered what "elemento" meant!
I used to think that there were 2 N's in the alphabet (X, Y, N, Z) and i wondered why they did that. A few years later, i discovered they said "and" not "N"
I used to think that earwigs were a type of toupee that you wear behind your ears.
I used to believe that 'musician' and 'magician' were the same words. I honestly could not tell the difference. Maybe a part of me knew that music was magical.

I used to believe that the word believe was spelled beleive
Not knowing the word "yield" as a child, I initially thought this was how one spelled "y'all". I figured the signs on the road were put there by the city to be welcoming to tourists, though it seemed like a poor strategy to me personally.
