When I was a kid in Albuquerque NM, we lived along an irragation ditch, quite common in that city.
I was told a story about a woman who was dressed in black who walked the ditchs at night weeping and looking for her children who drowned in one of those ditchs.
If she seen you or caught you along the ditchs at night, she would take you away and keep you as a one of her own.
It was sooo scary and I actually thought I could hear her because of the way the wind blew thru the trees.

When i was about 4; my little boyfriend (aaw) and his older brother came round my house one evening., and when our parents were downstairs, we creped up to my room with waterpistols (not filled) and pretended we were ghost busters. and try to catch the 'ghosts' his brother told me were living in my room. we hid by my bed and screamed when he said he saw one.
I don't know why, but we kept on going up there to try and see them, but his older brother allways scared us.

I couldn't go in my room for a year.
