when i was young my best friend and neighbour's mom use to babysit me. They were portugese and I was Canadian. We ate typical Canadian food such as meat and potatoes. My friends family ate food I never saw before. The fish still had eyes in it. One day I was there and opened the fridge and to my surprise I found monsters there. They had big claws and were moving around. I went screaming and running saying there is monsters in the fridge. I discovered later it was to be dinner. Live crabs.

when i went to bed at night, I believed monsters lived in the heating vent in my bedroom floor. I would put all my dolls in my bed under the blanket and I was afraid to have my feet outside the blanket. If I had to go to the bathroom at night I would be afraid cause there was a vent in the bathroom too. I would make bargins with the monsters and ask them not to hurt my babies. When I was done I would run back to my bed and find my safe place under the blankets. Now I can't stand anything touching my feet when I'm sleeping and I sleep with my feet uncovered.

I never had imaginary friends growing up, even though I was an only child until I was 9. However, I had a couple of things that are still with me as an adult...don't ask me why. I was a child that grew up sleepign on her parent's bed until I was about 10 years old. Therefore, I feared sleepign or beign by myself. I would have to check out every corner and closet and open space to make sure no killers (or Freddy or Jason) were around. Still have nightmares aobut it, and have to sleep either by someone, close to someone, or with the lights and TV on (if alone). I just can't handle it. The second one is actually kind of funny. Afetr seeing JAWS, I have always been afraid that a shark would attack me. So, I still can't swim in a pool by myslef or even come near a pool drain without thinking Jaws is in there. And for the longest time I used to think a snake or an eel or some kind of wormy creature would come out from the shower drain or toilet and nip me in the behind.

When I was little I believed that there was a monster in the hallway. So, when I crossed the hallway I would peek around both sides of the doorway and then run into the bathroom and slam the door.

Aunt Abi used to feed me dinner with stories of rosemary.. 20 years back, rosemary lived on the rose colored clouds found during summer evenings and she waited to snatch and take me into the clouds..

Ever since, I have avoided venturing out late in the evenings.

My mother told me that once in your life you will see your own spirit, it will either be a good one or a bad one so i better be good or the bad one will appear, for years into my marriage I always had to have the light on while I slept.

After my mother very sternly warned me never to detach the vacuum cleaner bag from the vacuum cleaner, I thought doing so would release the monster that lived inside.

I believed that if you made shadow puppets, the animals would come alive and be live shadows. That's why some shadows move and scare you, and where shadows where you don't know what they are come from.
I grew out of this fairly quickly.

There was some sort of chicken-monster on that Ghostbusters cartoon, and I thought it lived behind my garage and would eat me if I went out back in the dark.

When I was 4 or 5 I believed a big growling monster lived in my parents bedroom. Later on I found out that my Dad just always had explosive gas.

I always hated turning off the lights before I went upstairs. I imagined things coming out of the dark behind me, coming to get me. Needless to say, I always sprinted up the stairs so they couldn't get me. I am 26 years old, I know there is nothing behind me, but I still sprint up the stairs at night after I turn the lights out.

I used to believe that my Dad's snoring was a tiger in my parent's room. I was too afraid to get up and walk down the hall because I knew it would get me. I had some tough nights sitting on the edge of the bed having to pee but too afraid to go to the bathroom.

As a young child, living near a highway, The Boo-Boo-Boo Monster would come to terrify me at night. As a two-year-old it was hard to articulate my fear and describe to my concerned parents why I simply couldn't be left alone in my bedroom. Alas, eventually I would be left alone and once again the Monster would come to visit me. 'Boooo B-B-Boooo B-B-Boo Boo Boooo' he would cry, and soon after I would be crying too.

Several years later, while stopped at some traffic lights, for the first time I saw a motorbike take off, accelerating quickly. And riding it was the Boo-Boo-Boo Monster.

When I was young (really young) my mother and father would always say things like 'Quick shut the door there's a draft coming in' or 'There's a draft in here I'll close the window'. Now I didn't know what the word 'draft' meant, but I knew what a dragon was and the two words had a similar beginning. So I thought that a smallish invisible(but not to my parents) dragon type crawling thing would come into our house when it was cold or dark out. A few years in school sorted that belief out. Thankfully

I live far up north in Norway, with midnight sun in the summer and northern light in the winter. I, like every other child, used to believe that trolls and ghosts would appear if I whistled under the northern light.
