I used to believe that there were barracudas under the docks at Chautauqua. (A counselor told me this when I was 5, to keep us from playing under the docks and being out of sight of the lifeguards.) To this day, I hesitate to go under a dock, and feel very uncomfortable there.
when i was about 5-7/2 years old i alwase thought that teh coat hanger on the other end of the room was a person wating for me to fall asleep because the outline in the darkness of the hat and coat looked like a person
When I was little, I would stay the night at my grandparents' quite often, and the door to the attic was in their hallway. If I ever acted up, my grandpa would threaten to go tell Grandma Moses, and she would come out of the attic and cook me in her stew. It worked very well, especially when my grandma would be in another room hitting the ceiling with a broomstick.
When I was very little, I used to go and sleep in my mom and dad's room with them all the time. My dad finally got sick of me sleeping with them every night so he told me that some little monsters had moved into my room and lived under my bed, and if I put my foot down on the floor at night they would cut off my big toe and eat it with some ketchup. I believed him until one night my brother had to sleep with me, because my aunt and uncle were sleeping in his room. I forgot to tell him about the monsters, and about screamed when I saw him get out of bed to go to the bathroom.
I used to believe the masks people wore on carnival days were their actual faces. I didn't like this.
Until i was six i believed there were these furry red things called oogly googlies that hid in forests and fields. i drew pictures of them and showed my dad, who told be about them. Then as my dad was drving, he jolked and said he saw one. Trying to be cool, i said: "Hey! I saw it too! wasn't it cute?"
I used to believe there was a malicious rat that lived inside the light switches and sockets in my house. I also belived that if I played with these things the rat would come out and kill me. Parents are f'd up.
MY MOTHER, TO GET US KIDS TO COME IN WHEN THE SUN WENT DOWN INSTRUCTED US ON THE COACHWHIP SHAKE. IF YOU WERE OUT AFTER DARK THE COACHWHIP SNAKE WOULD GRAB ITS OWN TAIL, ROLL ITSELF INTO A ROUND HOOP, CHASE YOU DOWN. THEN UNCOIL AND WHIP YOU TO DEATH.
When I was 5, my Dad told me that if i go out at night, I'll see the "Night Troll" He told me that he had a long, pointy nose and ate kids. I used to believe him. I used to think I seen him peeking in my bedroom window.
When me and my siblings were younger our parents always used to tell us that we would turn into gremlins if we went to bed after midnight. We later found out it was only to get us to bed early. We still joke about it.
When I was home alone my protection from monsters and ghosts was to stay on my couch or bed with no part of me touching the floor or walls...and my bed had to be in a position where I could see all of my room...it seems to have worked ;)
My brother and I used to sneak and watch Chiller Theater even though we weren't allowed to. After watching a few episodes back to back - The Mummy and Dracula.. I was so afraid when I went to bed that something was going to get me, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I believed that I'd be safe from the vampire if I slept with a cross around my neck and I slept with my arms and legs all sprawled out so I couldn't I couldn't be mummified while I was sleeping!
I used to believe that the "booger man" was a tall skinny guy that was covered in boogers
My grandmother lived in an apartment building after she split from my Papa when I was little. The building had one of those buildings where the people who lived there could drop off trash and recycling and stuff and I always was afraid to walk or drive by it (it was sort of in the middle of the back row of the parking lot). I always thought that a dragon lived in it and ate everything that went in so I never wanted my Grandma or my parents to go in there. I used to have dreams about it every six months
the poopy man. he would pick your poop up when you flush
i used to believe that if i stuck my feet out from under the covers the monsters would get me and if i kept them in they would crawl in the blanket and get me
When I was 6, I used to believe that if I didn't get out of the bathroom before the toilet finished flushing, The"Potty Monster" Would suck me down the toilet to his world. When I turned 7 he was replaced with the "Garage Monster". (I run out the garage door well it's still opening, and if I don't get back in before it finishes opening, He'll eat me.)
We used to believe that the big fat red-eyed monster would come and eat us when we were asleep. One night we woke our mum and dad up with screaming because we thought we were being eaten! This was when we were 4 and for years afterwards we would sit up on our bunk beds all night clutching each other because of the red-eyed monster( we are twins).
I used to think snowmen were living creatures that could come to life and walk, because of the footprints in the snow from the people building them, even though nobody puts shoes on them! Talk about Christmas magic!
When I was little, I was really afraid to walk in the hallway at night by myself unless I turned the lights on. I thought there was a walking skeleton that was hiding in the dark and I was too afraid to talk about the skeleton, fearing that it could hear me
