Shampoo commercials.
I used to think that if you got close enough to a TV and looked down, you could see the boobs of the girl in the shower.
You know sometimes when adverts are cut short, well, when i was little, i used to think that it was because th people who made the adverts were away for the day, and the advert man would play out as much as he could remeber then leave it! how stupid i must have been....
In the 70's an advert on UK TV for Wrigleys Spearmint Gum had people carrying around enormous packets of gum. I believed that when you bought and opened a packet of Wrigleys Gum it would inflate to this size.
When I was little, there were these ads for Cheese Strings. I absolutely hated Cheese Strings, but one day I saw an ad and I didn't really listen. They were advertising a contest to win a Gameboy Colour, and they showed a sort of Gameboy like design on the bag. I thought that there was a Gameboy in every bag of Cheese Strings! I made my dad go and buy me some, and boy was I disappointed. Then I had a weeks supply of Cheese Strings. Ew.
I used to believe that all commercials were shown live and that each time a commercial with a school aged kid came on, that the child was signed out of school in order to perform the commercial. With that belief, I wanted to be on TV so bad!
When I was a kid I remember seeing some kind of PSA (which I'm now sure I must have completely misunderstood, given how my interpretation makes no sense) that said something like "if a kid doesn't know what he wants to do for a job by the time he's 14, he's screwed" (not in those exact words, obviously). As I was 12 or 13 at the time and had no idea what I wanted to do for a living, I was rather scared.
I thought that the insurance company Aflac was owned by Ben Affleck
I used to think that the people in the commercials were doing the commercial 'live' each time. I would follow along each time to see if they did anything different.
when tv ads for toys came on i would always try to convince my parents that they should buy me the toy because it was "9.99 PLUS TAX!" i didn't know that the 9.99 did not inlcude the additional tax, and thought that i would get the toy because of the lesser price
I thot that people on billboards and signs and stuff were real people trapped forever behind a wall, i always felt sad for them, and tried feeding them constantly. THis belief ended last summer when I was corrected...oops.
I used to think that adverts were what adults liked to watch most on TV. I thought that on cable there were whole channels with nothing but adverts and grown ups would love watching it all day
When I was growing up I used to sing " I wish I were an Oscar Myer Weiner, that is what I truely wish to be-e-e-e, and if I were an Oscar Myer Weiner every one would take a bite out of me-e-e!
In the Slinky commercial jingle, " A slinky, a slinky, it's fun for a girl and a boy", my dad thought he could only play with a slinky with a girl because he thought it literally and he didn't have a sister, but he played with one anyways, even alone.
when i was 6 I used to believe that when i saw movies in my tv, the commercials were to allow actors rest a little before going out to act again. And i was amazed how i could see the same movie many times without the actors making a mistake or getting tired from doing it over an over again
I used to see this advert on TV for handcream where they screwed up a dry leaf, then told you about the cream, and the leaf was green and fresh.
I honestly thought that if you put this handcream on a dead leaf, it would make it green again. How frustrating it was then that it never worked for me.....
wen i was little i was terrified of the tango man! i really thort he acctually came up nd hit u if u drank tango! no wonder i screamed if i saw any 1 drinkin it!
When i was littlei always thought the "Worthington Ford," commercial song out here in California would say "Pussy Cal, Pussy Cal, Pussy Cal."
In reality: "Go see Cal, Go see Cal, Go see Cal."
Go see cal for a good car deal, that is
until i was about 8 i used to think that everything happening on TV was in real life. for example, every time an ad came on, the actors had to be in the studio and act it out. i used to be amazed at how acurately they did it every time. But I also felt sorry for them because they always had to be ready in case it was suddenly their turn.
I used to believe that commercials were predictions of television shows.
I used to believe that if my mom bought snuggles laundry softner that she would bring home the lil bear too!
