I used to believe that the Sailor Soldiers from Sailor Moon were actual sailors, navigating the galaxy in giant ships.
when i was younger watching the Ren and Stimpy Show, i didn't think that Ren was a dog or Stimpy was a cat....i thought they were something else. even when Stimpy was in the cat litter i wasn't convinced
A friend of mine (at age 15, so I guess she should've known) used to believe that when you scream in a bottle and you close it, the moment you open the bottle, the bottle would scream. When we asked her how the hell she got to this thought, she simply said "Well I saw it in a cartoon, so I thought it could really happen". Well of course.
We still tease her about this one.
when i was 6, i watched pinnoccio. i was fascinated with the idea of jimminy cricket as his conscience. i though that every time i was bad, a cricket would come up to me and tell me i had been naughty. i was terrified at this idea, so any time i did something wrong, i would hide out in the house, for fear that the crickets would come and get me.
Back when Marvel comics first started publishing Spiderman (a month or so after The Fantastic Four) I believed that the superheroes really lived in New York. I dreamed about travelling to New York to see Spidey and talk to Ben Grimm.
Because my mum had told me that cartoons were 'moving drawings', i assumed that all things on the TV were drawn- so when i watched anything live action, i always thought 'wow, i wish i could draw like that!'
When watched the loin king on video, i used to believe that-if I broke the screen-imba & Nala would actually come out & play with me!!
When I was young I loved The Care bears, and I thought that they lived in the clouds, I had never flown before so I wasn’t sure if they did or not, one day my friend went on holiday and when she returned I asked her if she saw any Care bears and she said yes, and went into detail about who she saw in the clouds!
So when I flew for the first time despite being 15 and knowing better I was still looking out for the Care Bears in the clouds.
You know how in kid's magazines they have sections, where they show things kids sent into them, like stories and drawings. I drew a picture, stuck it in the magazine and waited to see if it would be published the next time I opened it.
I thought that the show Beavis and Butthead was called Penis and Butthead.
I used to think that cartoons were people in costumes and I was upset to find out they were drawings because I thought it would be a cool job to walk around in a costume.
There was this manhole in the middle of our playground for some reason and me and my friends would stand around it all day long listening for the Ninja Turtles.
I used to believe that animated characters were real people with costumes and things like the Eiffel Tower and Table Mountain, were the real versions but with soft blankets over them.
I remember when I went to Disneyland in Paris, I was 4 and I was extremely excited to see all the Disney characters. I thought they were real, and when I saw them I asked my mom: "If those are the actual Mickey Mouse and Goofy, and Pluto, why are they *always* smiling?" Then (a few years later) I found out that they were just people in costumes. I was so disappointed...
i used to beleive that this cartoon i loved to watch was real, and one night i had a dream that i was in the cartoon with all the characters and for weeks after that dream i actually felt sad because i wanted to live with those characters.
Years ago, my brother (5 years old at the time) kicked a mushroom that had been growing in our yard. I told him that he just murdered a bunch of Smurfs. He went crying to my parents about it. We grew up with Smurfs on the Saturday morning cartoons. I always think of the Smurfs when I see a mushroom in my yard.
My dad used to watch "Davey and Goliath" and he had NO IDEA it was a religious show. He just thought it was just a Sunday cartoon.
I once thought the story of Alexander the Great cutting the gordian knot was made up for the Phineas and Ferb episode "Knot my Problem"
it seemed that the only people i had crushes on when i was a little girl were cute cartoon superhero boys with superpowers. i'm still dissapointed that i can't get with the red headed boy that saved the day in the care bears movie...
When I was little I used to believe that cartoons were actually people who were dressed up in costumes. I could not figure out how they could fall off cliffs and get hit in the head with frying pans and still be ok.
