When my brother and I were little, we loved to watch our favorite show about a man who would turn into a big green muscle bound monster when he would get mad. Remember? My brother called it the "Incredible Honk"
i thought there was a "that 80's show" and "that 90's show" too
There was a show called "Happy Days" that has the lyric "Goodbye, grey skies, hello blue" in its theme tune, so I thought you couldn't watch it on a cloudy day.
a sitcom meant that you sat while you were watching the comedy
when i was about 4-5, i used to watch sesame street everyday..sometimes even twice. well after the show was over i was talking to my mom telling her that our family should take a vacation to sesame street. i was too little to get the concept of tv, and make believe. i was so sad to find out that it wasnt a real place.
on some shows that i used to watch, whenever that person was sad, they would play sad music, so every time i got sent to my room, i would wait for the sad music to come on. Obiously, it never did.
Do you remember how Sesame Street sponsored each show with a letter? Well, they'd say today's show was 'brought to you by... the letter B" or something similar. Until recently I thought "brought to you" was all one word like brotiued meaning sponsored by.
When i was young, i used to believe that if i dressed up as one of the teletubbies, i could have a small glittery blue television on my stomach just like them. that way, i could watch what young kids my age were doing!
I used to believe that Sesame Street was at the end of the lane that went through the small woodland behind my house. Every time I'd watch the show and then when it was over, I'd rush out and try to 'get in' to Sesame Street, but it was never there. I remember reasoning with myself that it must only be there when the Show started, and I never got there because I didn't wan't to miss the programme! Good grief :-)
when i first saw the opening for beverly hillbillies, i thought he shot a bunny or something in the bushes and the dark liquid pouring out was actually blood
i cried and wondered why the people were so happy
As a little kid, I would have to hide at the end of the show "Romper Room"...because I believed the host actually COULD see us all through her magic mirror.
"I see Joey...and Bobby...oh, and Kelly, I see you too!"
My friend told me that Wombles were real and I belived her. They originally came from Africa and she had one at her home. Unfortunately when I went round there to see him, he was out on his daily walk.
Terry Nutkins was a TV presenter in Britain, famous for programmes like 'Animal Magic' and 'The Really Wild Show'. He was balding on top of his head but had quite long hair at the back. When I was about 11 or 12, a friend told me that Terry Nutkins couldn't ever have his hair cut because he had nerve endings in his hair and it would hurt too much. I believed it unquestioningly until, while a university student, I started to tell someone else about Terry Nutkins' hair and realised that it probably wasn't true.
When I was younger I used to think Batman was evil (because of his Black suit and monotone voice) and I thought he was holding Robin hostage (for some reason) so I would always shout at the TV. My parents got a few laughs out of this.
I also used to believe that people weren't really kissing on tv or in the movies. I kenw that their lips couldn't actually be touching despite what I was seeing so I came up with the theory that the actors wore reaaalllyyy thin plastic lip guards.
When I was young there were two shows that featured absolutely loads of Gunge (which is a gloopy stuff used in kids shows a lot in the 90s) well one day a friend told me that Gunge doesn't actually come off and if you get any on you you're stuck with it forever. Naturally I was horrified that tv would do something like that and everytime Noel Edmund's House Party (where he Gunged people twice a night) or that kids show where children competed to drop their embarassing family members into a big pool of Gunge came on I would flee from the room.
When I was a kid I watched The Price is Right a lot. Every once in a while they would bring a puppy on the show to do a PSA for animal shelters, but it always occured right after they described one of the prizes. I used to think that whoever won that prize also won the puppy. I wanted to go on the show so I could win a puppy and my grandpa never bothered to straighten me out on the subject.
I believed that I could actually grow up to BE Daisy Duke.
My parents had the South Park kids as Christmas ornaments, and I believed South Park was a kids show until I actually watched it when I was 9
I used to believe that TV programs only played in certain places. I lived in Georgia, and was shocked to find that they could watch "Scooby Doo" in Florida!
