This honestly wasnt me! Dexys Midnight Runner. at the begining of "Come on Eileen" when he sings "poor old Johnny Ray" my mate thought he sang "Pool Hall Johnny Ray"
An old girlfriend of mine believed that the 80's song "Voices Carry" by 'Til Tuesday went "hush hush, keep it down down, Mrs. Gary."
She was 25 at the time.
When I was a kid, Bread came out with a song called "Make it with You". I first heard it when they appeared on the Andy Williams Show. Andy introduced them and said they would sing their new song, which I heard as "Naked with You".
I was horrified, sitting on the floor in the family room with Mom and Dad, hearing this group sing "I want to naked with you. I really think that we could naked, girl."
Didn't quite understand what it meant, but I knew it was something I shouldn't do with a girl.
I was about four when the Beatles released "Can't Buy Me Love." It was the first rock 'n roll song I remember hearing.
I thought the lyrics leading up to the chorus were "I don't care to bump the money, money can't buy me love."
I had no idea what bumping the money meant.
Up until about a month ago I always thought the line "Would she go down on you in a theatre?" in the song "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrisette was "Would she go down on your in a future"
Theatre makes much more sense if you ask me, Thanks Stimey!
There is this song: "Everytime you go away, you take a piece of me with you"...cant remember who sings it. When I was a kid I thought he was saying "Everytime you go away, you take a piece of MEAT with you". That still causes a chuckle.
I used to think that song by Nirvanna, were they sing "her denial" over and over was "bloody nylon"! O.K. I know it is sick. I REALLY thought that was what it was for like 2 years!
I have just learnt from reading the submission by 'Fernando's wife' that Juice Newton sang "just touch my cheek" in "Angel of the Morning". Darn it, all these years I've thought it was "just rub my feet". I thought insisting on a foot massage from a departing lover was quite, well, demanding, myself.
When Don Henley sang "Boys of Summer" I always heard it as "Poison Summer".
When Jethro Tull sang about Aqualung "eying little girls with bad intent", I thought the words were "eying little girls with battered ten-speeds". Well, ten-speed bicycles were all the rage when that song came out, and I was very young and naive.
The first time I heard the song "Candida" as a young teen (a long time ago) I heard the chorus as "Candida, wake up naked together" I was shocked (truly). My sister later told me the words were "Candida, We could make it together"
For the LONGEST time, I thought the words to Jingle Bells were:
Dashing through the snow, in a one horse soap and sleigh... had NO IDEA what it meant, but sang it with gusto!
I used to believe the song "Dude Looks Like A Lady" said "Do It Like A Lady"
I knew someone who thought the words to the Joni Mitchell song were "paid a pair of guys to put up a parking lot" , rather than "paved paradise..."
The Macy Gray song that was a big hit a couple of years ago - I used to think the chorus said:
"I try to say goodbye and I choke
Try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try and hide it, it's clear
I wear goggles when you are not near"
A friend pointed out that it says "My world crumbles when you are not near".
It's not. It's goggles!
When I first heard the song 'Vogue' by Madonna, I thought they were singing 'Bo' and it was a song about a shy boy named Bo who was afraid to dance.
When I was 7, a teacher at school used to sing " My Bonny is over the ocean",
but untill I learned English at the age of 12, I sang:
" My BODY is over the ocean, my BODY is over the se, ..."
Well, I still love the song, no matter the lyrics...
I useed to think that the song "Teenager in Love" went "why must I be-e empty major in love"
Stupid- I know.
I used to believe that in U2's 'With or Without You', he was singing "whistle without you" with a strong lisp!
Whithle without you~
Michael W. Smith has a song with the chorus line "So be strong and courageous". Our 6 year old was singing "Toby's gone, it's outrageous"; he was highly embarrassed when we laughed and pointed out the error.
When I was in high school listening to the radio, I believed the chorus of this song went "Give me the Beach Boys and free my soul/I want to get lost in your rock & roll..." etc. This summer I was told that the lyrics are actually "Give me the beat boys and free my soul... " etc. But what's the difference really? It's like the difference between purple and lavender... (then again, I'm no painter...)
In Paul Simon's Gracelands I was convinced the line 'She brushed her hair from her forehead' was 'She brushed her and farted'
I,m still not sure! Try it.
