This is for the 1979 hit song “I Got You” by the New Zealand band, Split Enz. I always thought that the line that actually read “I don’t know why sometimes get frightened” was “I don’t know, I sometimes I get five cents” up until recently when I look up the lyrics on the web.

In Fall Out Boy's song "Our Lawyers Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued", I thought the lyrics were:

With that sweat go on your feet
Make them dance like we were shooting their feet

But it actually goes:

We're friends when you're on your knees
Make them dance like we were shooting their feet

I'm not even sure of the name of the song but I know that I used to sing:

"You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, with four hundred children and not a crop in the field"

But the actual lyrics were:

"You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, with four hungry children and a crop in the field"

Believe me, my parents used to have me sing that for people all of the time!

Oh yeah, and I used to mess up Jingle Bells too, I'd sing it "horpin snorpin sleigh"

In the gorillaz song clint eastwood, i thought he was saying

I used to believe that Donna Summers wasn't singing "She works hard for the money," but rather "she was hot for the money." Yeah. I used to think that the song was about a gold digger.....

with the song "3 Lions" by the lightning seeds i used to think that they were singing "3 lines on a shirt" and not the more obvious choice of lyrics "3 LIONS on a shirt"

When I was a kid I was a massive S Club 7 fan { wow that took alot of courage to say } and I thought the words to part of their song Don't Stop Movin was "Teacher's got us swirling around".

It was actually "DJ's got us going around."

My daughter told me last year, at age 14, that when she was younger she thought the lyrics to "Winter Wonderland" were....... "Later on we'll EXPIRE, as we dream by the fire...."

In the Snow Patrol song "Run", he sings "Slower slower, We don't have time for that, All I want is to find an easier way, To get out of our little heads".

I thought it was actually "to get out of our yellow hats". I thought they must be wearing really tight hats.

I thought for ages on the song 20th Century Boy by Marc Bolan & T-Rex, the verse was "wine tastes fine, wine tastes good, something, something, just like Robin Hood!" when the REAl ones are "friends say it's fine, friends say it's good, everybody says it's just like rock'n'roll!". I still have no idea where the Robin Hood bit came from lol

Although the lyrics to B*witched's C'e Lai Ve (or whatever it is) are "Say you will, say you won't, say you'll do anything, C'e Lai Ve!" I still am obsessed with the words being "Say you will, say you won't, say you'll do anyhting, celery!". Well, mine are better :) lol

When I first heard the song "Eye of the Tiger" from Rocky, when the singer got to the line "Ahye of the Tigah!" (That's what it sounds like to me) I thought they were saying "Oh-Oh-Oh Tyla!".

I used to think that the Yardbirds song "For you love" he was saying "Toyota" similar to a comercial that was out at the time.

Ok I'm 24 years old right now and I just realized 2 weeks ago that in Huey Lewis's song he sings, "It's hip to be square". All these years I thought it was, "Let's hit the B-Square."

I just happened to think of the song the other day and I told myself it doesn't make any sense, then it dawned on me that it's HIP TO BE SQUARE.

Before i stopped listening to her music, i thought Avril Lavigne's Moble where it said "I'm a Mobile!" I thought it said "I'm a moron!" I asked my cousin (who at the time was anti-avril) why she thought she was a moron, and she said that it was mobile, not moron, even though she WAS a moron.

Everyone know the Macy Grey song that was a hit long time ago ["I try"], well I thought it said
"SI try to say goodbye to Machoke"
Pokémon being really popular at the time too, made me think that she was saying goodbye to Machoke.

My friend and I went to see the play "South Pacific" and there's a song talking about racism and how it's not natural, that people are "carefully taught" to be so.

Well, my friend thought they were singing "You must be careful, E. Tawt" as if it was a warning to a certain Mr. E. Tawt.

After clarifying what the song was really saying, I asked her who she thought E. Tawt was... she answered..."I didn't know! That's why I was sooo confused!"
