Billy Ocean's song "Caribbean Queen" was on the radio almost every morning before I went to school one year. I heard it often, so you'd think I'd know the lyrics...

The first line, in my head, was "She dutched by me and fainted on Gene". I'm not sure what I thought "dutched" meant; the mental image was that she slipped past the first guy and collapsed in the arms of his buddy.

The chorus was "Caribou queen / Now we're sharing the same tree". No, I didn't think she looked like a caribou, although I did imagine them sitting in a tree together. She might have been wearing caribou hide and fur, Inuit-style.

For the record, the correct versions are "She dashed by me in painted-on jeans" and "Caribbean queen / Now we're sharing the same dream". (Even the lyrics websites disagree on that first one-- depending on who you talk to, you'll be told it's "dashed", "danced", or "brushed".)

When I was five, I thought that the Beatles' song verse "I wanna hold your hand" meant "I wanna know John Lennon", and it was a homage from The Beatles to John, who was dead.

I used to believe that the song "Big Ol' Jet Airliner" went like this:

Big old Jed and Lila
Carried me to Faraway
Big old Jed and Lila
Cause it's here that I gotta stay

I pictured two huge old people carrying little kids on their backs to a place called Faraway and not letting them go home again if they were bad. LOL I had a vivid imagination!

I used to believe the line of the song "Wish I had an Angel" by Nightwish that went "Drunken disguise changes all the rules..." was "Drunk candy skies changes all the rules..." I thought the singer, the person who wrote it or the person it was about was on drugs.

I also thought the line of "Holiday" by Greenday that was "Just 'cause because we're outlaws yeah..." went "Just cause because we're out of gas..." I always laughed at that since it didn't make sense to me why they would pulverize the Eiffel towers because of that.

While listening to AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long", I usually hear...
"She was a fast machine, she kept her boner clean, she was the best half woman that I ever seen.."
As opposed to...
"She was a fast machine, she kept her motor clean, she was the best damn woman that I ever seen"

And Skid Row's "I Remember You"...

"Cause you'll always be my dream come true, Woman or man, I love you."
Instead of...
"Cause you'll always be my dream come true, Oh my darling, I love you"

Kinda a recurring theme.

When I was little, and my mom listened to the oldies stations a lot, I used to think the song 'Signs' said 'And the sign said long-eared hippie people eating all the pie.'

I thought that in the song "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani it said "i'm not in no Hall of Fat Girls" when it really says "i'm no hollaback girl". I figured out my mistake when I found out what the name of the song was and realized thats what it had been saying all along.

in santana 'smooth'..the real lyrics are...
"Well that’s the same emotion that I get from you"
and i thought it said...
"well thats same ocean i get f**k you"
gosh it took me forever to figure out why that allowed them to say that on the radio and not bleep it out

In the Blink 182 song "What's my age again?" he says "I wore cologne, to get the feeling right."
Weeeellll.... I thought that it was "I walk alone to get the feeling right."
My mom was like "Umm... why would walking ALONE help him get the feeling right, Kelsi?"

When I heard Kenny Rogers' "Lucille" I misheard "Four Hungry children, not a crop in the field". I would dance with my dad and sing "Four hundred children and a cow and an eel."

I must have been about eight, and in the song that goes "Do the Hustle!" I thought it said "Junior Hot Dog!" and was singing it very loudly one day when my sisters heard me and burst out laughing.

In Eminem's 'We As Americans', one of the lines he says is 'Look at our shit has been'. But I thought he was saying 'Look at our shit, it's big'.

My 10-year-old brother has recently taken to singing Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone". Except, he sings it differently...
Imagine a husky, shouty voice....
"Since you've been gone....
I'm a bean onyany animal...."

PS- the real lyrics are "Since you've been gone... I can't breathe for the first time..."

In Louis' Armstrongs Version of "What A Wonderful World" It says:

I see trees of green........ red roses too
I see ’em bloom..... for me and for you
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue..... clouds of white
Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world.

but i thought it said:

I see trees of green........ red noses too
I see ’em bloom..... for me and for you
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue..... clouds of kites
Bright geussed days....the dogs say goodnight
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world.

lol!
