a friend thought that the song "dirty deeds done dirt cheap" was saying "dirty deeds dunderchief"
As a child, I thought the song "The farmer in the dell" was instead "The farmer AND the dell". I knew what a farmer was from the time I first remember hearing it. But I spent a lot of time wondering what kind of occupation one would have if one were a "dell", before I finally learned the real lyrics and what a dell actually is.
When i was little, i believed that 'Dirty Deeds done dirt cheap' actually said 'thirty deeds, thunder chief'. i never listened to any of the other words, so i always thought it was about indians.
I used to believe the song on Home Alone was "The cold wind blows around the street of Denmark..." and the other line "The music plays all night, it's idyl-idlyic" It still sounds a bit like that!
When I was little, my dad would often play "Hot Rod Lincoln". There was never any alcohol in the house, and I'd never heard anybody drop the 'g' from a word ending in 'ing' before, so I thought Drinkin was a place, and that the guy driving the Hot Rod Lincoln was going to give him a lift.
For some reason I thought the song Admiral which sounds like Atomic Kittens I Want Your Love had lyrics that went 'at first we sail our karumba, and then set sail into the sea'. I guess I just made it up without realising because I have looked it up and never found those exact lyrics.
I used to think the song Wind the Bobbin Up was Wind the Bobbinut and wondered what a bobbinut was meant to be.
when i was eleven, i thought salt'n'peppa's "push it" was actually called "pussy" (maybe pronouced closer to "pusseh")-- so the chorus went "ah, pusseh, pusseh real good!"
not that the real version is that much cleaner
This is really my brothers'. When he was younger, he thought the song lyric for "Killing me softly with his song" was really "Killing me softly with insults..killing me softly...with insults...." =)
I believed for years that the Rolling Stones were singing, "I didn't mean to leave your pizza burning'" instead of "Beast of Burden."
my older brother was a metalhead and taught me to sing along to "battery" by metallica. one line goes "hungry violence seeker, feeding off the weaker...", but i always thought it was "hunting bob seger". it made sense that the guys in metallica would think bob seger was a wussy.
I thought "Mr. Roboto" was about a cyborg that was killing people to stay alive.
I also thought that "Benny and the Jets" was "Granny's fanny at the dance."
Around Christmas time my parents used to play this kids' song that went "I'm gettin' nuttin' for christmas, Mommy and daddy are mad" Only I always thought they were saying "Mommy and daddy are men." This didn't even strike me as funny, growing up, as I was in the Castro district of San Francisco.
My neice was convinced that the line about 'The girl with kalidiscope eyes' in the Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", was actually 'The girl when Kalidis goes by'. I'm not sure who she thought Kalidis was, but she couldn't be convinced otherwise.
My best friend, when she was young, really liked the song "take my breath away". The thing is, she thought it said "Take my brother Houla"!!
In the song 'Yesterday' by the Beatles, the line goes: I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday. I used to believe it went: I said, 'Something wrong?' Now I long for yesterday. It's a small but very important difference.
This honestly wasnt me! Dexys Midnight Runner. at the begining of "Come on Eileen" when he sings "poor old Johnny Ray" my mate thought he sang "Pool Hall Johnny Ray"
I used to believe the chorus of that song "Barbara Ann" (can't remember the artist)went: Bob bob bob, bob bob-a-ran. I wanted to know where Bob was running to.
I was the laughing stock of my family when i was younger whenever i sang along to my favourite 'Paul Young'...in one of his songs there was the line 'whenever you go away, you take a piece of meat with you' or so i thought! I now know that its actually 'part of me' but i think my version is much better!!!
I used to think Pearl Jam's 'Daughter' was "Don't call me, da da da..." as in rhythmic nonsense, wondering at the same time why it was called Daughter. Kinda of silly considering it's meant to be "Don't call me, Daughter, not fit to..." etc. I guess I'm not really fit to listen to it, huh?
