When I was about 12/13 and just getting into real music, I had a clock radio with poor reception, through which I had to strain to make out the proper lyrics of The Eurythmics first smash hit. For YEARS (I swear to God) I sang "Sweet Jesus, maiden of the East" (and not "Sweet dreams are made of these")

Remember that 90's song "I'll be your crying shoulder"? my sister and I thought for the longest time the guy was saying "I'll be your crying soda" which went with "a love suicide" which was mentioned in the next line in the song. We still sing it as soda because it sounds better to us that way.

Ahhh, yes, I remember it well. It was a sultry summer day in the middle of August... or maybe it was a chilly yet sunny winter afternoon... OK, perhaps not so well, but I remember being in the kitchen, and the radio was playing. My little sister was listening to it. She went out of the room momentarily during the commercials, and while she was out, the songs came back on. Their choice? Counting Crow's cover of "Big Yellow Taxi," but Joni Mitchell.

I was instantly mortified. Although I knew that SOME songs with bad words in them got routine radio airplay, such as "Big Old Jet Airliner," I was POSITIVE that a song using THAT word couldn't get played. I instantly turned the radio down, so my little sister wouldn't have to hear how they paid Paradise to put up a "f---ing lie."

I didn't realize my mistake until the song came on again while we were in the car, and I noticed the curious lack of freakingoutitude in my mom. I thankfully lisened closer that time and learned that the real lyrics were, in fact, "they paid Paradise to put up a parking lot."

For some strange reason, I never met the homosexual lovers that most people seem to hear in this refrain. Huh.

Now I know that he was singing, "I love a rainy night," but then I thought he was singing, "I love a MANIAC." I mean, he could have been, right?

When I was a child, up until I was about 12, I thought the lyrics to Jingle bells contained the line, " One Horse, Soap and Sleigh. It sounded the same to me, and no one noticed until one day I sang it solo.

When I was about 7 my dad and I were driving and he was listening to a song titled "Dancing in the Summer Rain." After a lot of thought I turned to him and asked, "Dad, why is she so excited about dancing in the submarine?"

In a song by Morcheeba, called 'Get Along' I used to think it was a song about DIY, because I mistook the words 'Get along, get aquainted' as 'get along, get it painted, get along buy a paintbrush' yeah honestly.

When I was about 5, I thought the song "Barbara Ann," by the Beach Boys, was about Bob Rae, the premier of Ontario at the time.

There was that song from Shakira, Objection. We made a dance to that music for our prom in Hungary. Once I heard my friend singing: ...'I'm not your mother, but you don't live in bubble' , when the lyrics was ' you don't even bother'. I was laughing on the floor, but she explaned it had a sense: You don't live in bubble means: you are not alone, you have to pay attention to others, don't be selfish..I think it has something in it:)

I used to think the Madonna lyrics to La Isla Bonita were 'Young girl with eyes like potatoes' and also the Queen song Breakthru 'Im under your thumb..'
woz first of all 'Im under your book' Then 'Im under your f**k'. Also, Im still not sure of the lyrics to The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony, they sound like 'I am here, in my mong' to me.

"It's Christmas time, there's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time, we let in fights and we banish gays
And in our world of plenty
We can spread exile of gays
Throw tomatoes at the world, at Christmas time!"
