In the early 1960s there were radio and TV ads for Frank Sinatra concerts. I didn't know who Frank Sinatra was. I thought the ads were saying Frank's in opera. I had only a vague idea what opera was, but I had no idea who this Frank was who was in the opera.
when i was was little i thought that pop stars were stars in space would pop
The first several times that I heard of the Allman Brothers Band, I thought that it was the Almond Brothers Band.
I thought that Tommy Lee (the singer) and Tommy Lee Jones(the actor) were the same exact person.
I used to believe that the guys from KISS wore their make-up and garb 24/7. Gene would pop off down the shops poking out his tongue and spitting blood. I was so disappointed when I realised it was just a hook to sell records and merch.
when i was very young, someone told me that mariah carey was half black while her music video was on tv.
she was wearing black tights at the time and i said, "duh. i know. the bottom half!"
When I was young I used to think that Micheal Jackson was a girl.
I used to believe that Elvis died when he was trampled by fans.
I used to believe that each time a music video came on, the band was performing everything individually each time (all over again) and it made me wonder how they got it to be the same every time. I thought the same about songs on the radio.
when i was little, my mom told me that if she hadnt married my step-dad, she would have married Phil Collins. I always thought she was seriously one of his "ex-lovers", and that they had had a serious relationship, untill i was about 12 and hse told me otherwise when i brought it up one day.
when i was little there was a country singer that was popular named anne murray. i thought she was my aunt murray (strange name for an aunt) i asked my mom one day why aunt murray never comes to visit us.
there was this kid named bruce that lived across the street from me when i was little. my mom used to call him bruce springsteen. i honestly believed that bruce springsteen lived across the street from me, and that this kid was the one that sang Born in the USA. Even when i was a teenager i would tell people that i used to live across the street from bruce springsteen.
When I was little I honestly believed that the 80s pop band Spandau Ballet were actually called Spandex Ballet, I told some teachers at school and they laughed loads but I was unaware about what I said
I used to be scared that Elvis Presley would peak in my bedroom window. I had 2 windows, but I only feared he would look in the East one, and never the North side one.
My mother went to prom with Elvis.
When I was little I thought the members in Queen were all woman because of their long hair. This confused me because the voices singing were clearly men. I never believed my brother when he told me they were men. (keep in mind I only saw the band members once, in a music video where they're faces were dark. all i saw was the long hair)
I used to think the band Lindisfarne was named Linda's Farm. This was around the time Paul McCartney bought a farm in Scotland!
Years ago, I read an article about Stevie Nicks, and in it she briefly touched on past relationships. This was before I really knew who was who in Fleetwood Mac, and when she mentioned her short marriage to Kim Anderson in '83, and her on-again-off-again relationship with Lindsey Buckingham, my first thought was: "All these years, I had NO idea she was a lesbian!"
It wasn't until it dawned on me that Lindsey was the *MALE* guitarist... I guess I always assumed that 'Lindsey' was the gorgeous, classy English woman (Christine McVie).
Up until I was about 11 or so, I believed that Cher was a man, since she has a rather deep voice for a lady. Me and a friend were hanging out one day listening to the radio, when one of Cher's songs came on. I said to her how that "man" had a rather unusual voice. It was then that I found out that it was not, indeed, a man siging, but that it was just a woman with a deep voice. I'm now 20 and still get a laugh out of this, especially when I hear that particular song on the radio.
I used to think that Sylvester Stallone and Billy Joel were the same person.
