I learned in the first grade that the Sun was a star just like all the other stars, only it was MUCH bigger.
i used to think that the solar system was the only thing that mankind had seen, and that the universe "ended" with pluto
When I was little I used to think that the night sky was like a big cloth or curtain and that the stars were tiny holes in the fabric. These holes would let heaven shine through.
I was taught in elementary school (I never figured out if the teacher was lazy or just did not understand it herself) that the reason the moon has phases is that half of it is smooth and half of it is pock-marked (That half got hit with asteroids). As the moon turns, only the shiny side reflects light. So when the shiny side is facing you all the way, you get a full moon and so on. I'm ashamed how long I believed that without questioning it.

I remember when I was very young, I used to beleive the moon would make you crazy, probably an influence from certain old werewolf movies...
I remember having terrible nightmares of me being outside at night, and the moon coming down to get me!

My brother believed that the moon was a "Western world" because it looked black and white, like an old western television show.

I used to believe, after many discussions with my older brother, that prawns came from the planet Mars... and that is how the planet got its colour.
I used to believe that people could fly to the Moon! There was this TV show called 'Apollo' about flying there, well I thought it was real!? Even today there are lunatics on the web who have 'proven' that they can fly to the Moon. Luckily none of them take their beliefs seriously enough to try them in the real world or they would be in for a big surprise!
When going home at night I looked out of the window of my Mums car the moon was always there, I thought it was tied to the car with String
I used to believe that space ended in a blue velvet curtain and if you looked through this curtain you would see God with a long white beard sitting on a golden throne.
I used to believe that the full moon caused all "lunatics" to go berserk. Believe it or not, it wasn't until I was eighteen and started my nurse training that my fears were allayed.

I used to believe that Sometimes when you looked in the sky at night you would see the Earth up there. Just like the moon!
Oh Lord not me but this woman my father used to date and her daughter also believed that the sun and the moon were the same celestial body. No shit.
I used to believe that you could see people on the moon.

When I was a kid, I thought the stars in the sky at night, were the balloons people let go.

A childhood friend confessed to me that she used to think the stars in the sky were from a gigantic American flag that would cover the sun at night like a window shade. For some reason, only the blue starry part would cover her neighborhood but other places were covered by the red and white stripes.

I used to monitor clear starry night skies very closely because I was sure if I looked hard enough that I would see Star Wars-styled space battles with lasers and everything. I can remember borrowing my dad's binoculars and just staring out my window for HOURS, dude!
when I was young, I thought that the shadows on the moon were the faces of people that had died, and that that was where you went when you died.
When I was a kid, I used to think that "Fred" DROVE the moon, because it seemed to follow us whenever we went anywhere at night
I used to believe that the sound of crickets at night was the noise the stars made when they sparkled.
