I used to believe that thunder was cause by Mother Nature bowling, and lightning was because she had a strike. I convinced all my friends too.
I remember being very young, and I was woken by the thunder and lightning outside. It was so loud and scary! I thought lightning was God's temper. The louder the thunder, and the brighter the lightning, the closer he was to getting me. I would inch to the edge of the bed where I couldn't see out my window (and assumed since I couldn't see outside, "he" couldn't see in) and lay there for 15 minutes waiting for the thunder and lightning to calm down before going back to bed.
when I was younger and it was storming at night, I thought that I did something terribly wrong during daytime and made GOD or Mother Nature real angry at me. I would lie in bed covering up/hiding from the lightning and thunder and pull all my stuffed animals around me so they could ''protect'' me! Sometimes I even hid under my bed and would sleep there! I even apologized to GOD and Mother Nature and begged for forgiveness repeatedly until either the storm stopped or I fell asleep first! OH BOY! was I ever an idiot!
My dad used to tell me that thunder was God rearraning His furniture and lightning was a little kid in Heaven flicking the lightswitch on and off.

While watching a thunderstorm with my 4 yr old son, we spotted some lighting in the clouds..after some time of watching this spot light up he said "That car up there in the clouds is turning its lights on." LOL! I'm sure you can imagine how absolutly adorable that sounded....

I used to think that electricity came from the ground in the form of endless lightning bolts (yellow zigzag lines underground). There was absolutely no doubt in my mind about that, so I never asked anyone until I just learned about it.
I used to believe that when thunder and lightning struck it was dead people in heaven going ten pin bowling. When my grandfather died (he was an obsessed bowler) I used to think it was him.
I believed until I was 11 that thunder was God rearanging his furniture up in heaven.
