Thunder was the angels shaking their blankets out. Rain was the fairies crying.
One time wheen I was a kid, I farted so loudly that my mother said, "Gee, did I hear thunder?". It seems like years thereafter that I actually thought that thunder was caused by somebody somewhere farting very loudly!
We lived in an area surrounded by farmland, mostly growing potatoes, and whenever it thundered, my dad would say, "They must be loading spuds in Tulelake!" That must have kept me calm when the loud roll of the thunder started.
I was told by my older sister that God was rearanging the furniture. And when there was a lighting he didn't like where the angels had placed the furniture so he blew it up.
When I was a kid, I used to believe that when lightning flashed in the sky, it was angles in heaven making a movie and the studio lights where flashing, when thunder boomed that it was god blowing and when it rained, the Virgin Mary was chopping onions and making God cry
My mom once told me that storms were actually Heaven's worst boy bands that thought they were good enough to play music.
I watched Heidi as a kid and she believed that when there was lightning you could see into heaven...so I was never scared and always looked...still do!
When i was about 4 to 5, i used to believe that when there was a thunder storm that dinosours would come outside, so i hid under a table and started crying until it was over.
My Grandfather used to tell me that when it thundered the angels in Heaven had knocked over their potatoe barrels and spilled out all the potatoes, and I always thought that that must be one humongous, gigantic barrel and a bunch of clumsy angels.

one day, during a storm i told my younger sister that thunder and lightning was the Giant chasing Jack across the cloud tops and shooting at him for steeling his stuff. sometimes it took a long time for Jack to reach his beanstalk and get to safety.

When I was little and was riding in the car with my Aunt and Uncle it was raining and there was thunder. I asked my Aunt if the thunder was God moving furniture around. I guess I truely thought
God was moving his furniture in his livingroom.
My Aunt and Uncle just laughed and laughed.
I used to believe that when lightening struck at night, it was turning the world into day for a few seconds.
To keep me from being afraid of thunder, when I was little my Mom would tell me that it was the sound of God moving furniture around in Heaven.
