I used to believe that tornadoes were gigantic nail-shaped clouds that came down out of the sky and smashed houses. One by one, in a row, the tornado-nail would move up and down smashing all the houses of the neighborhood. Then it would go back into the sky until the next tornado warning
I used to believe that rainbow was a color.
When my son was young, we went up north to visit relatives. It was dark out, but snowing. I wanted to show my son (then a toddler) the snow so, I turned on the outside light so he could see it falling. Then, when we were finished, I turned the light out. Well, he saw me flip the switch off and assumed that it operated the snow because he said "turn the snow back on mommy!"
My father must have thought it halirious one day to tell me that the small amounts of oil on the road were "dead rainbows". I would always say a prayer in my mind for them when I saw them. I am keeping up the tradition though (not in such a nasty way!) I tell my daughter that the power stations are really cloud making factories.
When I was a litlle boy mi mom always told me that when the sky was pink (because of the low sun) it meant that Santa-Claus was baking pancakes. I believed it for years and now I still have a sudden urge for pancakes when I see the sky turning pink!
i used to believe that when it rained, god was crying
One day in third grade, it rained, and our teacher told us to look for Roy G. Biv outside during recess. The whole time I was watching for a short man, possibly wearing a rainbow-colored 'fro wig, to peek around a corner and spy on us.
I was a dumb kid.
when i was sad. i used to believe that when it rained, my gramma n grampa were cruing for me
I used to believe that clouds were foreign countries.
I grew up in a very rural area, so tornados were a very common thing when I was younger. In the evening, from my parents home we could see the lights in the city when it got dark outside. There was a huge car lot in the city and it had the huge lights that would
circle into the sky forming a tornado shape, so it could get peoples attention. It definitely got my attention just about every night when I would run inside my house to tell my parents a tornado was coming. At first I had them running to the windows to look outside but eventually they drove me past my " tornado " one night and proved to me, it was only lights in the sky.
my gran told me that when there was thunder, god was having his coal bunker filled; when there was lightning, god was opening his fridge; and when it rained, god was taking a shower.
obviously, this led to me constantly looking out for large lumps of coal, food and soap falling from the sky!
When I was about 5 or 6 and even later, I used watch the clouds during a mild windy day, believing that they were trasforming into creatures of different shapes and forms for the purpose of having a party. I thought they were talking to each other and I wished so much to know what they say! So silly!
Because the way my Dad described humidity as the amount of moisture/water in the atmosphere, I used to think that if the humidity level reached 100% we would be all covered in water, flood-like, and drown.
top belief!
I used to believe that the clouds are like swimming pools. They are large white boats full of water in the sky.we can swim in them, and when we finish our swimming and go back to earth by plane. The water in the large boat leak from these large boats, they are rains!
As a little kid, I didn't understand why adults got so frustrated if it rained right after they washed their cars. What's the problem? It's just water. I hadn't considered the concept of mud.
I grew in the Santa Cruz mountains of California. From our house I could see the sunset into the pacific every evening. Often it would be foggy in the mornings. I used to believe that the sun was going into the ocean and turning the water into steam, hence the fog.
I knew there was one sun and that when the sun was shining on our side of the world it was dark on the other. I also thought that there was one set of clouds, and when it was raining here it was clear on the other side of the world!
The first time I saw fog, I thought the air had turned sour.
I used to believe that when windmills spun round they were making wind. They only spun round on windy days and stayed still on sunny days, so i never doubted my belief. I never could understand why people wanted to make it windy, STUPID PEOPLE!!!!!
ok. when I was young we would travel to visit my Grandad. We passed sugar mills, car factories, and other large buildings along the way.
well, listening to the radio weather updates in the car I always thought they said the tempeture at "the windshield factory" is such and such degrees. I figured that was a place we passed on the way to Grandads. I was 16/17 before I ever figured out they were saying "THE WIND CHILL FACTOR" DOH!
