When I was little, and not so little, I used to think that when people were saying wind chill factor they were saying windshield factor. It made sense to me; afterall, I imagined the weathermen taking the temperature of the windshield as the wind was hitting it to determine the actual temperature outside.

Coming from Derbyshire there are a few weird and wonderful sayings. My mother used one when the weather looked bad. 'It looks black ovver Bill's mothers', she would say. This had nothing to do with Bill's mother off course but being young and impressionable I always wondered why the weather was crap over just one poor sods house.

When I was a child I used to believe...

...that when it snowed a lot, like over 8 inches, and the snow collected on the lawns, I would look at it and just know that the lawn wasn't there anymore...it was all just snow now...and if I dared walk on it, I would fall right through...fall and fall and fall, no bottom! Once my sister pushed me onto the "bottomless" lawn and I screamed bloody murder till my Dad came and picked me up, has was shovelling, so he took a moment and shovelled me right up, and I was safe again. Whew, it was a close call I tell ya!

This is actually my little brother`s belief: When it was raining outside, he thought it was God who took a piss :D. And when it was windy, he thought God was using a vacuumcleaner, and cleaned heaven!

When I was little, my Nanna used to tell me that when it rained, it meant the Angels were angry and the rain drops were the Angels furniture being thrown around.

Used to believe the sunbeams that stream down through a hole in an
overcast sky were, literally, stairways to heaven. They looked so solid
and golden against all that gray.

I always thought that the layers of the atmosphere (ionsphere, stratosphere, etc) were separated, and that each layer was uniform throughout, rather than all the layers mixed together in a gradient. Also, I thought that atmosphere was contained in a bubble-like shield so all of the atmosphere wouldn't escape out into space. Ozone layer was also a type of shield (I always imagined them as a type of translucent shiny bubble), and the hole was a literal hole where there was no ozone at all. I guess that's what happens from looking at so many diagrams =P

When I was young (7 or 8) I would believe that everytime it rained that God was having a little party w/ his friends in heaven and were bowling (don't ask) anyways whenever it would thunder i would always believe that God got a strike and the bowling pins made the crashing sound. And when lighting stiked that was the floors surface splitting for a second whenever a bowling ball hit the floor to hard at the bowling alley. i was a very imagative kid!

I used to believe that if I looked out of the window in the early hours of the morning when it was just getting light, I could see a big evil looking eye in the sky (it was obviously a cloud I'd once seen!) which was staring directly at me.

I vividly remember seeing it in the sky! This freaked me out for years...

When I was little I used to believe that the snow came down from the mountain instead of the sky...cause all the older people would look up at the snow line and say the snow is coming down the mountain
