When I was a child, I used to believe that mannequins moved around and changed their clothes at night while the store was closed.
When I was little and went to department stores, I always would jump off the escalators at the end because I thought they'd suck my toes under when it got to the end. To this day I still get nervous about escalators because of that childhood fear!
When I lived in Texas as a small child, there was a grocery store called Gerland's. Whenever my dad went to "Girl Lands" I thought that was where he went to pick up girls!
I used to believe that a car auto body shop was a place where they sold body parts (ex. arms, legs, torsos). I had a fear of going into them!
I used to think that handbags were actually called hambags. I thought women carried ham around with them or something!
When I was little, we would take the bus downtown to the big department store. It had one of those old escalators that still had wooden slats to stand on. I used to worry that the escalator would eat me feet first and would refuse to go on it. I made my mom take the elevator.
When I was a kid, I was afraid of escalators in department stores. I thought that once I reached the top or bottom I would get sucked in.
When i was a little girl, I believed in a lot of things.
When i went with my mother to the supermarket we took a trolley and she put all the things that she needed in her bag. Then we went back home.
I didn t know she had paid a lot of money, I thought it was free.
I thought brown paper grocery bags would fit more than plastic grocery bags.
i used to believe shopkeepers lived in their on shops
When I was little my parents would say that if i wondered off in the mall and went into a store that it would turn into a dungen fillied with monsters and goblins ( at that time i was scared of monsters and goblins)
my mom told me that if i went inside the dresses at the clothing store, the dress would eat me...
my nana told us that if we didn't jump off of the escalator at the top or bottom, we would get sucked right into it along with the stairs.
We used to visit a shopping centre called 'Lion Yard' and perched on top of a big column was a statue of a large red lion. I was always afraid that the lion would come to life and jump down!
When I was little, I would sometimes wait for my mom in the car while she ran into the store or finished her shopping. I used to believe that if I sat perfectly still when someone walked by, they would think I was a statue and not kidnapp me. Sometimes it occured to me that I might not pull it off because I was wearing a seatbelt and clothes but overall I thought it worked well. I believed this until I was about 10.
When I was about 3 to 7, I was always careful when I got on escalator because my Dad told me, that at the top, if I didn't jump off really fast then I would get sucked into the escalators.
To this day I'm careful on escalators.I'm 10. but now it's because at the mall with my mom once I accidentally stretched really far. One foot was on the escalator the other was on the ground!
Scared of escalators!
I used to belive that if you didn't step off the escalator in time you would be sucked into the mechanism.
(this was actually my friend, not me). there was a store called Caldor, and my friends cousin told her it got that name because there was a stampede of cows and one got stuck in the door. she believed that until she told me and i told her it wasnt true.
I used to believe that Old Navy would only allow elderly Navy veterans to shop there, and also I used to believe that Pep Boys Auto only sold to men! =)
When I was smaller (I guess I'm still technically a child) I used to think that stores, especially liquor stores, would buy things at a slightly lesser price than wholesale from companies and that they'd pay the rest through a kind of "tax" when you bought it. I've no idea where this came from, but I remember thinking that it was "So complicated and stupid, so what's the point of having a higher wholesale anyway, what's it for?" Hahaha. It's truly ridiculous...only a left-brained person could think like that as a kid. Also, I don't remember when I realized that this was complete b.s. that I'd sold myself XD
