I used to think that you had to change your name when you got older, because i never saw any kids named Bertha or Sharon or any adults named Zoe or Ryan or something like that. I thought I was special because my name could be both a "kid" and "grown up" name so i didn't have to change it. I believed this until i met a walmart employee named zoey!

I have had many surgeries over the first ten years of my life. I am now eighteen. My neurologist's name was Dr. Grant. I never knew his first name but when I was younger I assumed his name was Ulysses because of the Ulysses S grant in history. I asked my mom when I was six if it was the same guy. I was shocked to find out that he wasn't.

I used to believe that when you grew old you had to change your name to an "old people" name, because I never saw little kids named Martha, or bertha or anything like that. Then I met a girl name Martha. LOL

As a child I wondered why my name was Dean, and how my parents (and I) knew it was Dean, and suspected that there might have been a great mixup and my real name was something else entirely.
This was long before I started getting teased for an uncommon name.

At first school, I envied anyone with what I saw as a cool name. Kimberly, Charmaine, Alexia, Nicola. But one girl had the coolest and quirkiest name of all. She was called Carilanne. We all wanted to be called Carilanne.

Only when I was 16 did I realise it was spelt CAROL-ANN....

When I was little, my parents told me if someone had the same name as you they could be related to you, so till I was about 8, I would say to every Hannah I met, 'hey we might be related', until I realised my parents meant surnames...
