I used to believe that the computer would blow up if I did the wrong thing or asked it to do too much.
Sadly, I still kinda do.
When I was small, I was told that if you left an electrical device plugged in with the power turned off, it would catch fire or explode.
I used to think that little elves lived in my computer and that when the computer was turned off they were sleeping. The computer was right outside the bathroom, so whenever I tried to go to the bathroom I would tiptoe past the computer and if I made a noise I would hide because I was afraid they'd be mad at me for disturbing their sleep.
when i was in junior high and we were driving home from camp, we passed all these windmills. my friend was wondering how they worked and we actually convinced her that there were people inside moving the propellers.
I used to believe that if you talked into the c.d. player while the radio was on, other people would hear it. So I would always run to the radio and shout things I wanted people to know. Like my birthday so people would bring me presents...
I liked watching science shows when I was younger, but I guess I didn't understand them too well...I believed that without a doubt that scientists were on the verge of cloning dinosaurs (I couldn't figure out why though!). And when Jurassic Park came out, I thought it was real...
I used to think "lobotomy" meant a brain transplant, and that brain transplants existed. In other words I thought that people getting lobotomies were getting the brains of other people put into them .. organ donors presumably. I learned the truth when one day during a conversation about consciousness I started to say "if you get a lobotomy ..." and then I stopped myself realizing I was about to say something really stupid. I said "wait never mind" and let someone else talk for a minute.
i used to believe that their was a whole bunch of tiny little people in our cars radio and thats were the talking and music came from.
When I was a kid, I used to believe a nuclear plant was a clouds plant and could make magic clouds.
I read a lot of kiddie science fiction books when I was younger(okay so I still read sci-fi) anyway for at least a few years I thought we lived in the 21st century (this was in the late 1980's/early 1990's) and couldn't quite understand why we didn't have cool spaceships and stuff like in the books I read.
I used to believe that if you left a lightswitch inbetween fully on and fully off that the switch would shortly burst into a shower of sparks and flames, burning your house down.
I used to believe that you could get cancer from looking in the microwave while it was running.
I remember thinking as a child, that by the time the year 2005 came, we would all be in flying cars and using hover boards! Man....was I wrong.
The way we're going, we'll be lucky if we see another 100 years!
My mom always told me that if you stand too close to the microwave you will go blind...i think it was just so I would leave the kitchen and get out of her way!
When I first heard the term "burning a CD", I had the immediate vision of someone setting a CD on fire and giving it to someone.
Not actually my own belief, but when my young son came across an old typewriter at a car boot sale, he thought it was an antique computer.
I used to believe that in fax machines, the person sent the actual piece of paper through a cord! I was always fascinated to think about how that big piece of paper got through that little cord, and how it travelled so far away!
I used to believe when I was a child that when you sent a fax, the sheet of paper really wentwhere you sent it and came back after the recipient received it.
When I was told a friend’s e-mail address to write down, I even spelled out “underscore” instead of putting “_”. lol
sometimes, and this onlt started a little bit ago, i go into the computer room, turn on the computer then run like hell so it wont see who turned it on..i mean come on, everyones cranky when somebody wakes them up!!
