okay I am older than most of you but I believed the stereo only came on when my mother sang. It always made me want to put on socks and skate around on the hardwood floors she had just waxed. This only happened in the house. In the garden when she sang I would accompany her music on the bucket I was picking in and sing along. I would still pick her out of a line of all the mothers available. She taught me work should be fun.

My father worked in an auto parts plant and would tell us about the dirty, oily machines and vats he had to work around. One time he was talking about a conversation he had with his co-worker about being assigned to a particularly unwelcome task, and he said, "You don't want to work near that machine, there's oil snakes and all sorts of things down in there!"

Being a little kid, I didn't realize he was just being facetious with his co-workerl so for quite a few years, I believed there were actually "oil snakes" that lived among the machinery he worked on. I don't know why I thought an auto parts factory would have snakes in the machinery, guess I just never thought about it...

I believed that the sound from a speaker traveled around the speaker in a circle very fast, and if you poked a hole in the speaker, the sound would stop when it came around to the hole. I believed this until I poked a hole in our car radio's speaker just to see if it was true. My dad never found out. (Thank goodness.)

When I was about four, I'd call my Grandmama up every day to tell her how things were invented. Our conversations went like this:
"Grandmama! Guess how the toaster was invented?"
"How?"
"Well, the cavemen went to the city and picked up some rubbish from the streets, like soda cans, juice boxes, and old socks. Then Fred Flintstone melted them all together and made a toaster!!"
