When I was six I checked a book about the human body out from the library. The last chapter was on reproduction. It explained the process, but left out any concept of volition. I spent some time believing that procreation happened whenever a penis neared a vagina. I was particularly worried that it happened at night, unbeknownst to my sleeping parents, while they were lying in bed next to each other.
I used to believe that if you wanted to have a baby, you would go to a doctor, tell him whether or not you wanted a baby and if you wanted it to be a boy or girl, and Voila, your pregnant.
I used to think that if you wanted a baby, all you had to do was go to the hospital and buy one. I figured out the truth when I was 5 and my Aunt got pregnant.
when i was little, i thought that the sperm got to the egg through the motther's mouth since it was the only opening,so the mom had to eat a guy's sperm!
I remember asking my mom if a woman was pregnant, could she get pregnant with another child so they would be 4 months apart or something. She said it was a good question and to ask our family friend who was a doctor.
For years I thought you could only get pregnant if you had sex when you have your period, any other time was safe the reason being when younger we had a female dog which mom said had to be kept in when she was in season. She got out one time and the dog up the road mounted her and this resulted in a litter of puppies.
When I was a very young boy, my mom told me that women got pregnant from doing dishes. I really believed that for a while. (You can imagine how I felt when they told me I was old enough to start doing dishes).
MY MOTHER TOLD ME THAT EATING WATERMELON SEED WAS WHAT MAKES YOU PREGNANT, IF YOU EAT A WHITE SEED YOU WILL HAVE A WHITE BABY AND IF YOU EAT A BLACK SEED YOU WILL HAVE A BLACK BABY.
i used to think that girls were born with little tiny babies in their stomach and that when they became adults the baby would grow unitl time to give birth. i believed this until about 9 or 10.
When I was little, I saw "Look who's talking" on TV. Because it was edited, the only thing they showed for the sex scene was john touching kristie's knee. For the longest time after that I thought that if I touched a girl's knee, I would get her pregnant. Just goes to show you, you shouldn't censor movies on TV (and how dumb of a kid I was)
i believed that eating eggs would make me pregnant as my mother went into a too detailed story about getting pregnant when i was six, lol! and i didn't eat eggs for years!!
When I was six or seven I used to think that babies came from two people exchanging saliva. The more saliva you exchanged with someone the more chances of you having their child, if you were a woman that is.
I used to believe women got pregnant randomly, sort of like catching a flu, only you catch pregnancy.
I remember playing with a friend when i was little and we were talking about getting married and having babies. The whole idea of dating and getting married made me cringe with embarrassment, so I proudly declared I would simply wait to get pregnant "on my own" instead of having a husband.
For a long time when I was little I thought I was pregnant because whever I laid on my stomach I could feel something going "bump bump bump" inside my stomach. I thought maybe I had been raped as a baby and it impregnated me years later. Later on I realized it was just my heartbeat.
I used to believe that when a man and a woman kissed, an egg would pass from the mans mouth into the womans, and she would swallow it.
And I thought that the womans body could tell when she wanted a baby so it would just start growing. And when the woman wanted the baby to come out, she would press her belly button... and i never got round to finding out where the baby actually came out....
When I was 6, I believed that birth control pills were eggs, and women would take them when they wanted to get pregnant. My grandparents were catholic and had 13 children. I asked my mom why grandma took so many "birth" pills. She was so confused.
When I was younger (6-7) I loved to read. I used to read books about human antomy. There was always a page abot babies. And the page would show a sperm meeting an egg. Si I thought if a mommy and daddy were touching tummys the sperm would travel through the tummys.
When I was little I thought that when a woman got married, her body would automatically know when and that's what made her pregnant. The body would also figure out how many babies the woman wanted to have. I also thought that, when an unmarried woman got pregnant, it was because she had been drinking.
I used to think that my dad gave birth to me instead of my mom because i looked more like my dad than mom.
I used to believe that women could get pregnant just by being in the vicinity of men a lot (this was why women got pregnant after marriage). This belief stemmed from overhearing my mother and her friend discussing the neighbor girl: 'If that Darlene doesn't stop hanging around boys, she's going to end up pregnant.' I had a brief period worrying about whether I should be in my father's company, but reasoned that perhaps you had to be a similar age to the man/boy in question. Luckily, I had no brothers.
