When i was little i asked my mom what a period was. She told me it was when your body started changing. I had also heard it referred to as a red spot. So i thought that you got a red pimple on your thigh, and your face started to morph so you looked totally different then how you looked before you had your period.

Me and my friends used to think that sanitary towels and tampons were something that mothers and housewifes used instead of going to the toilet, to soak up all the pee, because they were so busy all day that they didnt have time to go to the toilet!

I had to go to the shops and buy some 'female products' and my boyfriend at the time said 'is that for the blue stuff or the red stuff'. I asked him what he meant by 'blue stuff' - because he'd grown up seeing ads where they pour blue liquid onto the products to show how they worked he thought that what came out was actually blue

When I would see my mom's tampon applicators in the trash can, I thought they were "little toilet paper rolls" and proceeded to pick them up from the trash can. I always wondered why my mom would always snap at me to put them down.

When I was about 7, I thought pads were used for when you farted and you had an "accident." I didn't learn the real use until I was about 10. My mom still makes fun of me for that. :-P

When i had my first period, i wasnt really prepared so my Mom had to go buy me some of my own pads, my sister who was a very curious little girl snuck into the closet and found the pads, later that year my family was having a get-together and my sister blurtted out to me, "Sissy! Do you still have to wear those diapers?" I laugh now, but back then I was so embarassed!

I used to beleive that when a girl wore a tampon she couldn.t go to the bathroom until she removed it. I thought they had to hold their pee all day!

In elementary school I thought girls only got their period once, but they bled for a whole month. Until I figured out the truth I couldn't wait to get it, but it was mostly just so I could have it over with.

I remember when my mother explained periods to me, she said that it's when part of the woman's womb comes away. For ages I thought that meant that you kept losing some until eventually there was no womb left once you were a certain age. Thank goodness for sex ed!

When I was young I used to believe that women only got their periods during their teen years - so from 12 to about 19 years old. I was really disapointed when I learned the truth!

When I first got my period I was really scared to put a tampon in. My mom told me that I would be fine. I told her that I didn't want to do it cause I might put it in the wrong hole and then I would be bleeding still but I wouldn't be able to pee!

When I was little, I always thought the pad despenser in public bathrooms gave you sugar cubes. I'm not sure why but I was always mad when my mom said I wasn't old enough to need one.

The first time I asked my mother what a period was she said it was when a girl pees blood. Because I hadn't yet started having periods I was worried that my pee was pee instead of blood!

This is actually an ex-boyfriend from high school's belief. I finally set him straight. Whenever I was upset he would ask me if it was "the first of the month" and I never understood. Then I realized that he thought girls only got their periods during the "first of the month." Odd thing, he would ask me not only at the first of the month but all month long.

I first got my period when I was in Singapore on holiday almost twenty years ago. My mother had warned us about not drinking from the taps for fear of getting a tummy bug, and had told me and my brother off serverely for buying and eating an ice cream from a street vendor... When my period came for the first time it was brown rather than red! Despite being informed on periods, with all the lectures on tummy infections I was sure that the brown discharge was due me dying...I was so worried that my mother would be angry at me I threw out my underwear for the rest of the trip - luckily we were on our way home in just two days!

An older lad told me and a mate what he had learned about periods during sex education classes, but explained the function as washing away eggs, this cracked me and my mate up who both thought he was trying to tell us our mums would lay eggs once a month

I used to believe that when a woman had her period, her urine would turn to blood, and the only reason you had to wear a pad was in case you couldn't make it to the bathroom in time, during your period. And when i first got my period, I thought that my pad would somehow leak, so I ran to the bathroom every 20 minutes to check the back of my pants, adjust my pad, etc. The thought of anyone seeing blood on my pants horrified me. Still does.
