When I was little I used to believe that when you were born you already had a VERY tiny baby growing inside of you.Every year that baby got a teeny bit bigger. When you wanted the baby to come out you just went to the doctors and they would cut open your stomach and take it out. I believed that all the way up till 4th grade.

I was around 8 or 9. My mother was pregnant and I had questions! My Dad was doing the best he could explaining everything but he couldn't quite bring himself to tell how the sperm got from the man to the woman.

So, after MANY sessions going into all the anatomical stuff on each side and all the gestational stuff about the baby's progress, I finally got a little impatient and asked the crucial question.

"Dad, I understand all this stuff but HOW DOES THE SPERM GET FROM THE MAN TO THE WOMAN?"

My Dad wasn't generally a smoker but whenever we'd have one of these sessions, he was smoking. After this question he took a drag on that cigarette that consumed about half of it in one go. He said,"Well you know the man and the woman sleep in the same bed and sometimes they roll over on each other ACCIDENTALLY!" He totally ran for cover!

I still smile about this 50 years later.

I used to think that babies came from the toilet. I thought that a guy and a girl pee in a toilet and then they flush it and then out pops a baby.

I never believed in a stork, but I never ever asked my parents (or anyone else either). I just used to think that when a man and woman marry that God just put the baby into the mom. It was magic. Or so I thought.

When I was young my mom conscientiously offered to teach me about sex and the difference between boys and girls. She said that we could look at pictures if it would make explaining things easier. She meant in a medical book. I thought she meant pictures of her and my dad having sex. Needless to say, I was terrified and said no.
